GitHub locks the repository for the word "retard" in the description

A couple of days ago , a commit was made to the WebMConverter repository , correcting the word retard (brake, dumbass) in the project description. Previously, the project description was WebM for Retards, which was changed to WebM for Gits. The owner of the repository showed the text of the letter sent by the github: For those who do not speak English well, in short -

We are writing to you about a repository that was deactivated for violating the ToS (terms of use) github. Content that violates the rules consists of the words “retard” and “retarded”.
We give you 24 hours to fix. Follow these instructions to remove the above content from the repository history: (provides a link to the instructions)

It is worth noting that the repository was blocked for 3 days , while the owner tried to contact the support of the github.
A heated discussion unfolded in the comments on the commit and in the corresponding topic on the reddit regarding the legitimacy of the github’s actions, in particular, how far this struggle for minority rights could go and whether it would harm the development of open source projects using github. Many noted that the word git itself (a dumb, incompetent, annoying person) is abusive and accused the github of double standards. It was suggested that under the cover of the fight against discrimination, objectionable projects could be blocked.

It seems to me that in RuNet this was not particularly discussed (I could be wrong). It was interesting to find out what the users of giktims think about it, especially those who use github.
