Rooti Climate: a small but very practical weather station

Weather stations now will not surprise anyone. Modern devices of this type are very functional, plus they do not take up much space. But no matter how small the stationary weather station is, you won’t take it with you, although there are situations when you want to know the weather conditions at the place of rest or work (in the same country house or hunting with fishing). Advanced devices that can measure pressure, wind speed on the street (there are some), CO2 concentration are expensive, their owners will definitely not take such a device with them, being afraid of damaging the system. The price of such systems is quite considerable - not everyone is ready to shell out $ 200-300 for a gadget that deals with temperature measurement.
The developers of Rooti decided to focus on creating a miniature weather station with basic functionality, but modern capabilities, a high degree of reliability and a relatively low price. I must say, the company Rooti did everything. What the device looks like and what its capabilities are, I already wrote . The other day, colleagues from Medgadgets sent me one such device for a test in the field: at home, on the street, on vacation (sea). Climate didn't let me down - the miniature weather station worked day and night, sending all the data to the phone.
Interesting points
The main features, as I wrote above, were indicated in a previous post about this device. Now I’ll talk about what I liked most.
Easy installation
To get started, you need to unpack Climate, turn it on, install the application on your phone (Android and iOS), and carry out the standard pairing procedure. I also note that the station can be worn as a keychain, or attached to a backpack. You can install at home on a special stand.

The work starts right away, the data is displayed correctly:

It is possible to set the temperature display both in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit.
By the way, Climate has one function, the descriptions of which I did not find in the instructions (maybe I was looking badly). When you press the only button of the weather station, if the procedure for pairing the device with the phone has already been carried out, the smartphone emits a sound signal similar to the established call. In other words, with the help of a weather station you can find a smartphone lost in a house or office (or in a tent, if you are on vacation).

Device features
Temperature and humidity are important parameters, but there is another function that is very rare in weather stations - this is the measurement of the level of UV radiation.

The measurement is carried out on a UV scale recommended by the World Health Organization. The device uses the American UVI standard, which is almost identical to UV.
You can read more here , and in short, 0-2 points - this is security, walk on the street at least in his underpants, there will not be any special problems.
3-5 points - the average level of UV radiation. You can get sunburn, but not much. Sunglasses are recommended.
6-7 points - a risk zone. Need sunscreen or clothes, glasses.
8-11 points is hell. You can get badly burned already in 20-30 minutes (I confirm it from my own experience), it is contraindicated to be without glasses in illuminated areas. Even with a short time in the sun there is a threat of very quick sunburn.
In addition, type B UV radiation (that which reaches the earth’s surface), with constant and prolonged exposure, causes eye diseases (for example, cataracts), skin problems - erythema, negatively affects the immune system. The risk of melanoma, one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, is increasing. For people with fair skin (and this is almost all the inhabitants of the European part of Russia) protection is required even with UVI = 3. For this category of people, UVI = 8 is simply hazardous to health, especially if no protective measures are taken. With this level of radiation, doctors recommend applying sunscreen with SPF 30+ every two hours, even when it is cloudy. Plus, the cream is required after swimming in the water in the open air - pool, sea, lake, river.

And Climate takes measurements, showing the level of UV radiation by UVI. A very useful function for summer residents and vacationers, a risk group, most of whose representatives burn out on the first day spent in their native beds, fishing or on the shore of the sea / river.
The software of the device has a function that allows you to calculate the safe time in the sun for people with different skin types, with adjustments in the case of using sunscreen.
In a post about DNA analysis systems available to all of us, I indicated my daughter’s data for the Atlas system. In particular, I indicated that my daughter spends 2-3 months a year in areas with a high level of solar activity. And here is what happened at the output (among many other results):

Now, after measuring the level of UV radiation with Climate, you can see a clear assessment of the level of UV radiation, and not just the knowledge that "the sun is bright." And this is vital knowledge, without exaggeration. This type of measurement should be carried out both at sea and in the country, especially if you or your child has fair skin and moles.
Compare:

Skin type - regular, sunscreen with SPF 15 (this indicator is usually indicated on the cream label), UVI = 1. You can walk all day without any problems.

And this is an almost extreme level of UVI = 8, with the same parameters for skin and cream. 37 minutes is all you can afford.
If you wish, you can set a timer that reminds the user that it is time to go home if you do not want to turn into a well-fried kind of Christmas goose.

And this is a real-time graph of temperature, UVI and humidity. Updated every few seconds. UVI 8 is the exit to the street at 14:53 from the apartment to the street (the device was tested in Granada).

And this is such a morning at 11 o’clock. Direct rays fall on the sensor at this time, so UVI is immediately 6, the temperature is 40+.
All that is higher is testing on the city street (balcony + walk along the street).
Note - on all screenshots there is a stylized image of a plant in a pot. Almost everywhere the plant is in shock, and it can be understood - a temperature of 30-40 C seems to be a little paradise. This "plant" allows you to immediately understand what is happening outside the window (or what microclimate is in the house), and what can be expected.
Here is a check at sea :

Despite the bright sun, it is already evening, and UVI = 1. So you can get a little cream, and walk along the beach / swim as much as you want, without fear of sunburn. And so it happened - no one was burned, neither adults nor children. Humidity, mind you, is quite high.

But a walk along the street in the evening (also in the city, the distance from the sea is 50 km). There is no UVI (the sun has set), but apparently the wind is blowing from the sea, so humidity is 67%.
But a check in the local library
tells the truth, for optimal performance, you need a temperature of about 28 degrees, plus humidity from 30 to 45. As you can see, in the library conditions are just perfect (sorry, I could not find out the concentration of CO2, Climate is not able to carry out such measurements).

For comparison - conditions outside the library, a couple of tens of minutes after leaving the building:

You won’t work here, especially with such a UVI value :)
And some more weather conditions from the street (this is in the shade):

To summarize
In general, Climate will be useful both at home / in the office, and outdoors, on vacation (cottage, fishing, sea).
At home and in the office, the Ministry of Health recommends

At home, humidity is especially important if there is a small child. By the way, in different rooms, if the apartment is large (or is it a house in general) it’s worth installing several Climate weather stations - then the phone shows a summary table of data from several devices.
On vacation, Climate shows temperature, humidity (for the same fishermen or summer residents, this can be critical), plus, very important, the level of UV radiation. It’s one thing to know that you can get sunburn in the bright sun. And it’s completely different to understand when exactly you will burn, and how much :) If you often take aggressive sunbaths a lot, then something worse can happen than just burnt skin. Yes, I mean melanoma and eye damage.
Climate developers paid maximum attention to precisely the functions of measuring the level of UV radiation, and they were right - thanks to this, the device becomes indispensable in the field.
Where can one buy?
You can order Climate in Russia and some CIS countries at the Medgadgets store.
