When a user installs and opens the Top Story application, it contains popular news by sections and categories. However, the user's behavior and interests are gradually taken into account and Top Story selects and displays the most interesting news for him - all readings, bookmarks and user favorites are analyzed by the backend system, which forms a new adapted news pool.
For example, we take a “clean” application, install it on an Android smartphone with KitKat 4.4 on board (the application is suitable for Android starting from version 4. There is an iOS version on the App Store) and we only become interested in news about fighters and cars. The time of interest is one day, although in reality it takes a little longer for the system to fully adapt. The result is not long in coming - after a while the user reads more and more in the recommended about airplanes and less about the cartoon “Minions” and disturbing foreign policy events that are on the top of all news feeds.
The more you use the application, the better and closer it will recognize you and offer relevant news. Learning is provided by a hybrid recommendation system: each user is automatically tagged by the system ("tagged") according to his interests and is associated with the device by ID. The number of such tags can range from a dozen to thousands. When a user updates news in Top Story, a smart recommender system “recognizes” the owner and gives him a feed based on his interests, combining news texts and user “tags” on the backend. In simple terms, the principle of learning the recommender system in Top Story resembles the search engine used by Google or Yandex, but this is not the same.
Top Story is constantly updating events - news coming out on other feeds 2-3 minutes ago gets into the aggregator. Such a speed is a huge achievement, which was achieved by controlling a huge number of sources 24/7. In addition, due to machine learning algorithms, it was possible to ensure that the news in the feed is not duplicated.

Recommended - the first tab and just the same news on the interests that are formed for the user. This includes news taking into account subscriptions, bookmarks, keywords, and news read by the user.

Night mode is white text on a black background - a convenient and non-glaring solution for reading in the dark.
