Toyota advertises hydrogen cars, saying that there is hydrogen even in manure

Toyota has launched a promotional video on the network, with the help of which the corporation begins promoting its Mirai hydrogen car as an international brand. True, the motivation of customers in this video looks quite specific: engineers say that hydrogen is so common in the universe that it can be extracted even from manure. Probably, according to the intention of marketers, this should prompt Mirai buyers to think about the economy of a car with a hydrogen engine.

The video is called appropriately: "Fueled by bullsh * t."

The process of producing hydrogen is illustrated as follows. Having collected a certain amount of cow manure in the pickup truck’s trunk, the company’s engineer pours it into a special sump (it’s called digister in the video). It is a kind of pit or pool covered with tarp-like material. During the natural processes of decay, biogas containing a certain percentage of hydrogen is released. This biogas is collected in special cylinders and undergoes methane purification using special equipment. The resulting hydrogen enters the tank of the car.

Toyota by the beginning of sales managed to receive approximately 1,500 orders for the Mirai car, and about 400 cars have already been received by their owners. Look more serious problemhydrogen gas stations - in California there will be only 15-20 of them by the end of the year, which is still comparable with the number of hydrogen cars sold in the USA. To stimulate the market and manufacturers, the Japanese company at CES 2015 announced the opening of its large patent pool for hydrogen technology in the automotive industry.

Toyota Mirai is a four-door sedan with an electric motor that generates energy from a hydrogen converter. In Japan, it is priced at 7,236,000 yen (approximately $ 61,100).
