Music piracy virtually eliminated in Norway

The latest sociological study of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in Norway showed that only 4% of young people under the age of 30 use illegal methods of music production. Instead, most people prefer streaming services such as Spotify or Tidal. Marte Thorsby, head of the Norwegian IFPI division, said: " We have created services that are both better and friendlier than illegal ... Over the past five years, we have virtually eliminated the illegal exchange of music ." In 2009, 80% of young Norwegians illegally downloaded music.

Since November 2014, Billboard magazine, the main indicator of the American music industry, began to take into account data from streaming services (Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play and Xbox music) when compiling a hit parade for artists . Every 1,500 listenings of a track on any of the services, the statistical company Nielsen SoundScan counts as the sale of one album.
