18 times more dangerous bacteria in a mobile phone than in a toilet

The British tabloid DailyMail reports a study by the University of Surrey, which shows that phones can be populated by dangerous bacteria.

Today, many of us do not get our hands on phones - even in the pre-smartphone era, with their help, you could not only connect with other people, but also access the Internet or take advantage of media opportunities. Modern application stores only add new features that make the phone indispensable for navigation, chat, games.

Frequently used items - keys, coins, banknotes - collect dirt when used. Handsets are no exception. In many cases, the accumulated microorganisms are relatively harmless, they are only the result of poorly washed hands or touching dirty surfaces. But there are also dangerous cases that threaten a skin rash, blood and food infections.

British scientists plunged 30 phone cases into Petri dishes containing a favorable environment for microbial growth. The photos show the results of a three-day growth , and not the contents of mobile phones at the time the experiment began.

In some cases, there were instances of Staphylococcus aureus. It is believed that about a fifth of the population is a carrier of this bacterium, which is stored on the skin and in the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. And these people are not sick.

But with violations of the skin, staphylococcus can get into wounds and cause infectious diseases. Severity ranges from acne, impetigo, boils to pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, toxic toxic shock. The bacterium can easily spread over infected surfaces from person to person.

Another dangerous representative of the fauna of telephones is Bacillus mycoides. Usually this bacterium is found in the soil, that is, most likely the device or its user has recently had contact with the ground.

Tests showed that on average, a mobile phone carries 18 times more bacteria than a drain handle in a men's toilet. Almost a quarter of the tested phones had a tenfold increase in the level of infection. One instance was so dirty that a simple conversation on it threatened an upset stomach.
