Robohakatron from MIPT

    Today, I suddenly learned that another leading university in Moscow decided to contribute to the popularization and development of robotics. Studying at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology during the years of my youth was considered the pinnacle of dreams for a student who is fond of physics. I am sure that today he has largely retained his position.
    If you are fond of robotics and have one or two like-minded people, as well as the desire to test yourself in an extreme situation, then it's not too late to register! The competition itself will take place on the weekend of April 18-19. Applications are accepted until April 14. Initially, registration was carried out until April 10, but the organizers decided to extend it to 14, so to speak, at the request of workers. You can register even if you do not have a team, but there is a burning desire. You can pick up team members from the same loners! Hurry, there is very little time left!
    Students can take part in the event, but only accompanied by adults.
    A bonus can be the opportunity to plunge deeply into the world of this iconic educational institution and even spend the night in a student hostel!

    Minisumo robohackathon is:

    • The ability to create a sumoist robot in two days from scratch;
    • Experience working on a project in a small team (2-3 people) under tight deadlines;
    • Experienced and willing to help mentors;
    • 2 leagues - programmers and masters;
    • Minisumo competitions in three leagues (programmers, masters, free);
    • Exhibition of robots (Alantim robot, spherical robot for research in the Arctic and much more).

    About the event:

    Robotic hackathon is a two-day event in which participants will make and program sumo robot robots from scratch. Experienced mentors will be ready to help and answer questions.

    Participants will be divided into 2 leagues: programmers and masters.
    Participants in the league of masters can submit applications that present how to solder sensors to the controller board, motor control board, power, how to design and assemble a robot together so that it all works. Participants will be given the same robot assembly kits.
    Participants who are interested in focusing more on the algorithm of the robot’s behavior during the battle and minimizing work with their hands can apply to the programmers league. Programmers will be given an almost ready-made Pololu Zumo kit, requiring minimal skills in soldering and mechanical work.

    It is assumed that participants who already have experience in assembling robots, including sumo robots, will participate in the league of masters. The organizers reserve the right to final breakdown of participants by league.
    For advanced teams there will be an opportunity to print their bases or elements on a 3D printer.
    The hackathon will end with minisumo competitions that will reveal the winners in both leagues.
    For the hackathon, it is planned to prepare sets of bases (2- and 4-motor) in advance so that teams (especially beginners) can save time on designing and printing the base for placing the components of the bag.

    Registration of participants is extended until April 14!

    I myself am in no way connected with the organization of this event, but since the article raised some questions, I had to get involved in correspondence. I publish below excerpts from it to clarify some points.
    Entrance to the competitions themselves and the exhibition for fans is FREE. For those who want to observe the process of the teams themselves, it is necessary to fulfill the conditions described below:

    Question
    Hello.
    Recently I found out that an interesting event is being held at your institute. I can hardly take part in it, but the question arose - is it possible to participate as a spectator. And if so, how to do it. Do I need registration, where and when can I drive up?

    Answer
    Good afternoon!

    In principle, I have no objection that people come as spectators. Another question is what being a spectator at the hackathon itself is not the most interesting. You just see how many guys are sitting at computers, skipping and collecting robots.
    However, the result of the hackathon will be a robotics competition and an exhibition of robots, which will already be interesting to guests. The robot Alantim from MIT will come to the exhibition, who can communicate (learn) with people and remember them.
    The exhibition will begin at 15:30 in the hall of KZ MIPT (1st floor of the MIPT), the competition will begin at 15:30 with the lobby of KZ MIPT (2nd floor of the MIPT).

    If you decide to come, let me know when to wait for you and better the name of those who will be with you, so that they provide for badges and watch lists.
