Gift for son: phone from Game Boy

Nintendo released the first Game Boy in 1989, and its follower, Game Boy Color, in 1998, almost 20 years ago. One of these devices, namely Game Boy Pokemon Yellow, became a “donor” for the phone , which the enthusiast made for his son, a lover of classic consoles.

As components for the phone used a set of RePhone Kit , launched in 2015 on Kickstarter. At the first stage, it was necessary to deal with the audio module. The wire had to be increased. The microphone replaced the speaker.

“Gameboys are like a sandwich - a printed circuit board is like meat between the parts of a plastic case, all components are installed on it, and the case holds them together,” the creator of the new gadget writes. He wanted to repeat the same idea when converting the console to a phone: all the components had to be connected to the board, but not to the case itself, so that at any time it was possible to open the device for repair or improvement.

The touch screen was not quite flat, so part of the printed circuit board underneath was cut out. From the board with the screen there are inch loops: to which you need to connect GSM and audio modules.

To make more space in the upper part of the battery case, I had to cut the Pokemon cartridge and fix it in the slot.
