New processor fan: more efficient and quieter

The CoolChip startup , created by two MIT students, demonstrated a working prototype of its fan for processors, TechCrunch reported . An interesting design of both rotating and fixed parts of the radiator allows to improve heat dissipation by 35-40% compared to existing industrial models, while dramatically reducing the noise from the fan. The overall goal of a startup is to reduce the energy consumption of data centers.

They showed their cooler, which they mysteriously called the KHS “Kinetic Radiator”, at a demonstration event organized by the Highway1 startup accelerator . The manufacturer of cooling equipment for PC Cooler Master www.coolermaster.com is already interested in the technology., and Microsoft with their Xbox One game consoles and the next, yet to be announced model (rumored to be the Xbox One Slim). Owners of large data centers interested in saving energy, as well as users who are interested in games, 3d rendering, video editing - everything that requires high processor power, and which, in turn, requires a large number of powerful fans, may be interested in a new fan.

The principle of operation of the fan is shown in the diagrams. 50% of the energy is dissipated through a stationary radiator, and the other half through a fan, the blades of which are also radiator plates.

Startup has been working since 2010. In 2011, a startup won $ 200 thousand at the MIT Clean Energy contest, and in 2012, it received investments in the amount of $ 500 thousand from the Founders Fund investment fund (owned by the co-founders of PayPal).
