ARKit, Flutter, Core ML, animations, and more at MBLTdev 2017

Hello, Habr! On October 27, the 4th International Conference of Mobile Developers MBLTdev 2017 was held .

25 speakers from Google , Uber , Avito , Fyusion , Sharewire , Tinkoff , PSPDFKit , Agoda , Sberbank and other companies made presentations on the latest trends in mobile development and shared their own experience and practice. The main topics of the conference were speed and support for applications, AR-interaction, Core ML, animation, Audio Unit Extension, organization of team work and much more. How it was - read under the cut.

This year, MBLTdev brought together more than 600 participants: iOS and Android developers, testers, analysts, mobile development project managers and other representatives of the professional community. The program took place in 4 streams in the formats of reports, quizzes and Codelabs.

    main hall

San Francisco -based Uber Android developer Zac Sweers has launched a program in the Main Hall. Zac described how the Uber team uses code generation for troubleshooting and boilerplate code. We examined automation capabilities, examples of libraries and other chips.

iOS developer Luke Parham, in addition to working at Fyusion, writes tutorials for raywenderlich.com . In his report, Luke spoke about various tricks and approaches for optimizing and increasing the speed of productivity of mobile applications. We figured out how to notice Dropped Frames and learned tools like Time Profiler, Core Animation, and Activity Trace.

Developer Ivan Škorić ,PSPDFKit made a talk about Android animations on Kotlin using RXJava2. The creation of a stack of Core Data with an extensible model was described by
Vladimir Ozerov and Alexey Ulyonkov from Sberbank . Together with Alexander Tolstykh from the Dutch company ShareWire, they discussed tools and approaches to increase the quality of development with minimal effort. Alex Curylo , Agoda

made the closing report in the Main Hall. His talk was interactive: Alex walked out to the hall to demonstrate the use of Core Location to create AR interaction tied to real objects. We also examined the use of technology to improve various areas of life: from retail to navigation in museums.

In addition to the speeches of the speakers, the main hall also hosted quizzes for Android developers from e-Legion and for iOS developers from CocoaHeads . Winners received MBLTdev 2018 tickets, cool T-shirts, books from Ray Wenderlich, certificates from JetBrains and Skyeng.

    Second hall

Ilya Kulebyakin from e-Legion spoke about the Legacy code. The report discussed approaches and life hacks that save time and avoid turning the project into a source of pain and frustration. From the experience of e-Legion disassembled the creation of the architecture of mobile applications and building relationships in a team.

Along with Nikolai Nesterov from Avito we learned about the benefits of static analyzers and looked at how to reduce the number of routine code review using Android Lint and Android Studio.

Kirill Klebanov , Surf, talked about CoreML and its practical application. Using the Labyrinth application as an example, they learned about the visual search device. The application finds on the cover any of 180,000 books from the store’s base. Also dealt with the architecture of mobile neural networks. The topic turned out to be so interesting that after the report in the discussion area, the conference participants discussed for about 20 minutes the possibilities of visual search and its application in mobile applications.

Danil Ternov , Android developer of the Wallet mobile application , spoke about the custom Layout Manager for RecyclerView. Understood the new architecture of Amber, invented by Nikita Arkhipov and his colleagues from Anvics. It is developed based on Redux and Elm using Rx. The final report in the second hall was made by Victor Starikov from VoltMobi . The Audio Unit Extension was discussed with him: the possibilities of this extension, the way to create and use it.

    Third hall

The program of the third hall was opened by Makar Stetsenko from Silicon Valley Insight . Learned how to get started with GraphQL and its use in native applications written in Swift and Kotlin. After that, Vladimir Tebloev from Sberbank made a report on the DI framework for Android applications and code generation problems using the example of Dagger 2. Kirill Bessonov spoke about the architecture of the mobile operator’s application from Tinkoff’s experience . After lunch, the program was continued by Dmitry Kuzmin and Lev Brook . Alfa Bank guysThey shared their personal experience in systematizing the process of creating, storing and reusing icons for iOS and Android platforms.

Zviad Kardava from Google to share details of the development with the help of cross-platform UI-framework - Flutter, presented at the Google I / O in May 2017. This SDK is suitable for both platforms iOS and Android, thus minimizing time spent on the development. Flutter also simplifies the interaction between developers and designers.

Next, Ilya Linnik , Evotor , made a presentation on microservice architecture on a mobile device. Nikita Kleshchin and Timur Nurov from Mail.ru Grouptalked about the components, functionality and development of the Delivery Club application .

    Codelabs

This year, for the first time in the history of MBLTdev, Codelabs on iOS and Android development were organized. CocoaHeads conducted four hands- on training sessions:

    1. Solving algorithmic problems with the standard Swift Foundation SDK.
    2. Integration of approaches based on Optional, Guard Bool, Casting types, Reference & Value types, Map & Filter, Protocol extensions.
    3. Search and correction of a logical error hidden in the code of the finished application.
    4. Search for the maximum number of security errors in the prototype application.

Codelabs on Android development was conducted by Zviad Kardava . Participants learned about the intricacies of working with Flutter and tried to write code on this framework.

    Networking

MBLTdev, as always, has become a platform for networking. In special discussion zones, and just in the conference halls, participants talked with speakers.

The partners of the conference Mail.ru Group , Tinkoff , Alfa-Bank , Sberbank , Evotor and MTI held quizzes and awarded winners with cool gifts: sets from LEGO, folding bikes, sweatshirts and T-shirts. The participants also talked with the robot Alantim, tried on a neurohelmet, competed with friends on the race track and took pictures with Scarlett Johansson.
