WWDC 2017. Let's make a little noise

This year, I was looking forward to WWDC. While Apple sits on the biggest cache mount in history , competitors are propping up on all sides. Google with phones, Amazon with Alex, Microsoft with AR - at some point it even seemed that Apple was starting to catch up, not lead. But today's keynote put everything back in its place.

    Norm

I visited WWDC twice, this time decided to look from home. Apparently, he was mistaken, this conference is the richest in many years. Even by the speed with which all features began to be announced, it was clear that they would MUCH. And the guys did not disappoint.

Here is the new iOS, and the long-awaited update of macbooks and aimaks. And the new cool iMac Pro for just a modest 5000, new macos, iPads, very high-quality AR, and HomePod. It’s hard to recall a more eventful event from Apple. About all sorts of new chips iOS and MacOS, it’s not even particularly interesting to write, read on VC .

    High

This is what really caught the eye.

iPad with 120Hz support. Those who were sitting at the gaming monitors understand the difference between 60 and 120 and know how significantly this changes the perception of the interface. A very correct step. Until the Androids do the same, the iPad will look like a buttery smooth device. After it, using other devices will be difficult. Obviously, in the near future we will see the same 120Hz on the iPhone, so we are waiting for the fall.

New iron. Finally came a late update of MacBooks and aimaks, but this is not surprising. But the fact that the guys took the Mac Pro and stuffed it into the iMac case - deserves respect. Apple still does not want to lose the race of professional desktop computers, they made every effort. And thank God, I already thought of Hackintosh assembling PC-based components. Because even the top iron slows down when Gradle anneals or the Swift compiler decides to iterate over the whole project. The price is horseback, but I'm sure hipster startups with estimates of a few yards will buy such cars.

HomePod.The logical and expected answer to Google Home and Amazon Echo. I wonder how high-quality the sound will be in such a small column. Let's see what the reviewers write. I'm a little worried about the guys from Sonos, because the Multi speaker room is already done by Google and Apple, and the guys still haven't put out full integration with the services. After all, for almost a year now we have been waiting for the integration of Sonos and Echo. Well, the ability to have Siri in the house with HomeKit is also very convenient. For example, because Alexa and Google Home control many devices through the Web API, which personally causes constant brakes in my home when you ask me to turn off the lights. But HomeKit works with them directly, so it’s often easier to say Siri “Hey Siri, Dim the lights”.

ARKit.The most delicious and cool. What really distinguishes it from competitors like Google Tango is that it works without any additional sensors and will be available on hundreds of millions of devices at once. This is a strong punch towards Google, which has worked on Tango technologies for many years, but has not achieved even the slightest distribution. Judging by the demo, the technology works quite smoothly and causes a wow effect. A bit like Minecraft on Hololens. Hundreds of applications of technology for games, apartment planners, Enterprise-solutions are waiting for us in the near future.

    We work further

By the way, Apple's emphasis on hardware, Metal 2, ARKit, and the ability to connect a VR headset to a Mac are a very interesting development course for the company. It seems to me that they are really preparing for a new type of AR device a la Magic Leap and for this they fit the entire surrounding technology stack (hardware, graphics engines, Tools) and prepare the audience through an intermediate version of ARKit.

Over the next 5-10 years, a powerful movement is clearly expected in the direction of some new way of consuming content. Today's presentation of Apple showed that they are actively working on this. And there is already something to show.
