Australia has canceled the installation of an Internet filter

For a long time in Australia, with the filing of Prime Minister Julia Gallard, they considered introducing an Internet filter. According to the plan, using such filtering, users of the country would not be able to access sites with inappropriate content, including child pornography, violent scenes, terrorist sites and other resources. But now the threat of such a filter has disappeared.

The Australian Minister of Communications said that Australians will be able to access any sites except selectively blocked sites with the notorious child pornography. The filter will not be installed, providers accepted the government’s proposal to block 1,400 sites, which are among the worst sites compiled by Interpol.

It is worth noting that the country's largest providers already blocked access to these resources earlier, starting in 2010. However, no other sites will be blocked. Australian authorities abandoned previously announced plans to introduce an Internet filter, including under pressure from the public. And the international community began to criticize such plans, pointing out the inadmissibility of the introduction of censorship. It is worth noting that plans for the introduction of an Internet filter have been developed by the Australian authorities for five whole years, but, as we see, we had to abandon the intention to put this filter into operation.

Nevertheless, some countries have long introduced (or are introducing) filters of this kind, which have been written on Habré more than once.
