In the United States, the telecom operator, which limited the channels of the "unlimited" Internet, was fined $ 40 million

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined TracFone, a $ 40 million wireless carrier. This company promised users an unlimited connection to the Internet, but upon reaching a certain size of data downloading, the user was cut down in speed or blocked access to the Internet. Actually, this is what many operators in different countries do, and until recently, the authorities did not pay much attention to companies cheating their users.

The case with TracFone may set a precedent for all such cases in the United States. According to representatives of the FTC, the company was not fined for cutting the user's communication channel to achieve a certain amount of downloaded data. Telecommunications operators were punished because the company called the package "unlimited", although it was not at all like that.

At the same time, it is clear that truly unlimited tariff plans should be much more expensive than the services familiar to many. Nevertheless, many users are not aware of what exactly the telecom operator means by the term "unlimited" connection to the Network, and often such users are deceived in their expectations. It is also worth noting that telecom operators quite often point out the real limitations of the "unlimited" communication channel, but they refuse to give specific data on the limit.

Of course, I would like not only in the USA, but also in other countries, telecom operators (and not only them) to call a spade a spade, and provide real data on various points of the tariff plan. But so far this case is an isolated one, and many dozens (or even hundreds) of other telecom operators continue to offer the “unlimited” communication channel service. Perhaps the case described above will help reduce the number of such offers on the market.

By the way, if you are from the USA, and have been deceived in your expectations in relation to the TracFone service, then you can request a refund by this link.
