Sony has published a full list of games for the PlayStation Classic
A few weeks ago, the Japanese corporation Sony announced the imminent release of a modern version of the classic PlayStation One. As in the case of Nintendo, it will be more a hardware emulator than a full-fledged console, but for old school gamers such a device is a great gift. The experience of the same Nintendo confirms what has been said, because the NES Classic Mini sold out in multi-million copies almost immediately after the release.
It is worth recalling that the cost of the PlayStation Classic will be $ 99.99. It will be delivered with built-in games in the amount of 20 pieces - in the opinion of the project participants, this is quite enough for immersion into nostalgic reality. The developers say that the games can not be added, deleted or modified, but if the software and the hardware platform of the console are about the same as in the case of Nintendo, then you may think that there are people who can add games.
Initially, the company said that the list will include such popular titles as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms. About what other games can be, PS One fans argued in the forums. A few days ago the controversy stopped, because the company announced the entire list. Unfortunately, he is not quite what he could be. There are no Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Silent Hill, Castlevania, MediEvil and many other hits.
The complete list is as follows:
- Battle Arena Toshinden
- Cool boarders 2
- Destruction Derby
- Final fantasy VII
- Grand Theft Auto
- Intelligent Qube
- Jumping flash
- Metal gear solid
- Mr Driller
- Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
- Resident Evil Director's Cut
- Revelations: Persona
- Ridge Racer Type 4
- Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
- Siphon filter
- Tekken 3
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
- Twisted metal
- Wild arms
In principle, it’s great that the developers have included Twisted Metal and Resident Evil, although, on the other hand, it would be possible to add Twisted Metal 2 and Resident Evil 2, which are no less popular than their predecessors. But what's done is done, I would hope that the list of games can still be modified.
Interestingly, the Japanese version is different from the American and European. Instead of Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Grand Theft Auto, Oddworld, Rayman, Siphon Filter, Rainbow Six and Twisted Metal, the Japanese will get Arc the Lad, Arc the Lad 2, Armored Core, G Darius, Gradius Gaiden, Parasite Eve, SaGa Frontier, XI (Devil Dice).
Games are not just chosen, but according to the popularity of titles in a particular region.
PlayStation Classic will appear on store shelves and online December 3. It may well be that this console will be disassembled like hotcakes - something similar happened with SNES and NES Mini Classic. However, a year later, Nintendo resolved the issue with the deficit by releasing additional lots of mini-consoles. Now any of them can be bought online or from hands, and in some cases is very inexpensive.
Virtual memory will be used instead of physical memory cards, so there is no need to buy additional accessories of this type. By the way, the company decided to sell the USB adapter separately. In this, she also repeats the actions of Nintendo - she also sold consoles with a USB cable, but without a charger.
As for the PlayStation, if Sony’s first experience in releasing retro consoles is successful, the PlayStation 2 can be expected to appear - maybe it will happen in 2020, then exactly 20 years have passed since the advent of this console.
Nintendo also has reserves - it can release modified versions of the GameCube and N64.
