3D printing with sand using the Sun

You, I hope, as a child did not scoff at insects by frying them with a magnifying glass. But you probably know that this is possible. The artist Marcus Kaiser does something similar, only instead of fried ants he has sand, and instead of a regular magnifier, he has a large Fresnel lens.

His printer is called SolarSinter. It prints volumetric objects in the sand.

The concept is similar to a regular 3D laser sintering printer, but SolarSinter is much less accurate than a laser. But do not forget, this is Marcus - an artist, not a scientist, and its development was made for the sake of art, and not in order to create a prosthesis for the knee joint or vertebra .
