IT hobbyists: electric bicycles, wooden houses and Tibetan sound production
It's already August, the summer is drawing to a close. The holiday season is still in full swing. Someone goes to the seas, someone goes to the country, and someone is content with walks in the city. However, whatever type of vacation you prefer, there is no doubt one thing - you cannot live by work alone, you always need to have some kind of hobby, hobby, passion that is not related to the main labor activity. Of course, if your hobby does not harm anyone or anything, then it has a right to exist. And if it also benefits, it’s generally wonderful. And we decided to ask what our IT specialists do in their free time, what their hobbies are. The variety of hobbies of our colleagues turned out to be so amazing that we decided to share our discoveries with you, as some Mail.Ru Group employees spend the summer.
For instance,Sergey Troshin ( the_wr ) - a senior programmer from the Allods Team toolkit team - is engaged ... in the manufacture of electric bikes .
“I like high-tech, uniqueness, real everyday convenience and applicability of electric wicks. Difficulties consist in finalizing the file and turning the disparate set of strange spare parts into a working and not falling apart device in an hour. ”
As an example, he showed photos of his last year’s project (now a newer version has come to replace him).
These are lithium "banks", 3.2 V, 10Ah each.
Scheme - 24 pairs of lithium "cans" connected in series to a 92 V, 20 Ah battery.
Assembly process:
The bicycle is driven bymotor-wheels :
The system was controlled by a special controller. The bike developed a top speed of 75 km / h, and accelerated to 50 km / h in about 7 seconds (a new option in 5 seconds). Cruising range was 60-120 km, depending on the speed limit.
It happened that not only passers-by paid attention to the homemade :)
Vladimir Rudnykh ( dreadatour ) - head of the Mail.Ru Calendar development team - on the contrary, takes a break from high technology in his free time. In two weeks, together with their son, they built a gaming mini-house.
“I liked that in these two weeks there was nothing for me except my relatives, family, son. Priceless, happy time! I liked the complete detachment from computer technology and do-it-yourself work, to calluses, to blood: you rethink your everyday work. Difficulties - the inability to redo what has already been done (unlike a computer), because of this there are several shortcomings that I intend to avoid in the next version of the house =). "

Eduard Utukin (@Utukin_Eduard) - project manager Weather Mail.Ru and technical project manager Lady Mail.Ru - an avid fan of Nepalese and Tibetan culture, performs music from these countries.
“The best thing is a complete concentration on the sound produced when the instrument is your body itself. The most difficult thing is to gain the will to self-transform: to find your own timbre, to force the body to make a unique sound with long workouts - this is what is more complicated than many other things. ”
