Style and new technologies in medicine: 3D printing bus

Traditional gypsum dressings are terrible in appearance, bulky and uncomfortable, irritate the skin and, over time, start to smell bad . It is like a medieval instrument of torture. 3D printed nylon tires for fixation completely solve all problems with discomfort, unpleasant odor and itchy skin. The cast exoskeleton design concept provides a secure fit, looks elegant, ventilated, is very comfortable due to its extremely light weight, as well as waterproof, hygienic and recyclable.

And now, developer Deniz Karasakhin went further and took the next step: he developed a three-dimensional printing bus called Osteoid Medical with the ability to connect to low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) to accelerate bone healing.

The Osteoid Medical 3D Printing Bus Concept won the 2014 Golden A'Design Award for the Design of 3D Printing Products. But the development is based on scientific data: the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound system (LIPUS) can reduce the duration of bone healing by almost 40% - with just one 20-minute procedure per day. Such therapy with a traditional plaster cast is practically impossible, because it requires the placement of ultrasound electrodes on the skin directly above the injury. And with a three-dimensional bus, this is easily feasible thanks to the ventilation holes. LIPUS probes attach to the bus, and the rubber layer at the edges of the adapters for the LIPUS probes allows the probes to be securely installed in the ventilation openings of the Osteoid medical bus.

Since this is a design concept, you probably won't find it in the emergency department anytime soon. So, do not rush to break your arm simply because of the opportunity to get a sci-fi 3D-printed tire. Such projects develop rapidly when great ideas in science and design are combined.

Someday, people with broken arms will look like cyborgs, thanks to the futuristic design of all kinds of dentures and dressings.
