Third galaxy
Two years ago, on April 12 (it was World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day), a group of people from Intel managed to open two new “galaxies” without any special equipment: Intel Galaxy - a community for computer technology lovers and IT Galaxy , a community of IT professionals .

Two years of confident flight in orbit - the initiative was supported by thousands of registered users. And just the other day, with a difference of 731 Earth days, the third galaxy was discovered - Intel EduGalaxy . As the name suggests, it is dedicated to education.

The opening ceremony of Intel EduGalaxy coincided with the " Education Without Borders " exhibition at the Expocenter.
According to the creators, the resource should become a convenient platform for discussing Intel educational projects. And by and large - this is the first large professional online community for teachers, which should bring together all interested people involved in the future of education in the light of the use of new information technologies.

Translator, Shelley Schott (Director of the Intel Global Program “Learning for the Future”), Vera Baklashova (Director of Intel Educational Programs in the CIS countries) and Yaroslav Bykhovsky (Intel Business Development Manager for Education in the CIS countries).
Shelley told about the role of educational processes in human life, about the new Intel project and its components, as well as just about Intel's contribution to education. For example, the company has invested more than $ 1 billion in various educational programs, where Russia alone accounted for more than $ 15 million.

"Yesterday I told a group of teachers about my two children. My eldest son will retire around 2060. According to some estimates, during his life he will change about 15 different professions. Perhaps some of these professions do not yet exist. It is very important today to teach him to adapt and learn, to perceive new knowledge and put them into practice. This is where Intel’s educational programs are focused - we help children acquire 21st century skills. “

In fact, the new galaxy is a single entry point for all educational projects that Intel launched earlier. Among them is “ Learning for the Future”», A global program for educational professionals; it is the most successful program of its kind on a global scale. More than 7 million people were trained in it in 60 countries of the world - from young teachers to real veterans; in our country since 2001, more than 650 thousand (!) teachers have been trained under this program.

At the Intel ISEF World Youth Science and Technology Watchsince 1997, more than 500 Russian high school students have taken part; This May, a delegation of 30 of our guys will go to ISEF in the USA and, according to Shelley Shot, has great chances to take one of three prizes. In addition, since 2007, as part of the “1 student: 1 computer” program, Intel has donated about 6,000 computers to Russian schools, and since 2005 we have been participating in the “Learning with Intel” project for more than 100,000 students across Russia. Agree, impressive numbers.
Yaroslav Bykhovsky spoke about the latest version of the wonderful Intel ClassMate PC school netbooks that were presented at the recent CeBIT exhibition.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to feel the news - while they temporarily stopped at the Russian border and are waiting for a miracle. As soon as at least one instance of the new device reaches the Moscow office of Intel, I will write about it. Last year I already did a review ( Part 1 , part 2 ) of the Intel ClassMate PC netbookprevious generation. Then I briefly mentioned the competition between schools, when Intel donated a number of schools the same netbooks for the implementation of school plans. Many (even on Habré) then reacted very skeptically to this, they say netbooks will pull the director and the head teacher, but they won’t reach the hinterland. Nevertheless, the first attempt of the pilot project took place and more than 200 Russian schools received the Nth number of devices

. Intel Company and this year (the second year in a row) will hold a competition of projects “ School of the Future with Intel ” to create an educational environment “ 1 student: 1 computer»Among secondary schools in Russia. The purpose of the competition is to direct the best achievements of Russian pedagogical thought to the benefit of the development of education, to encourage active teachers and demonstrate the results of their activities to the general public - all the details of the competition can already be found on EduGalaxy. Last year I went to see my teachers with pleasure, passing along telling them about this competition - they participated, but did not win. I hope we are lucky this year!

Vera Baklashova spoke about the Russian-language version of the project, about its prospects and the hopes assigned to the project.
In conclusion, the speakers answered the guests' questions, after which the time came for live communication, where I learned a lot of interesting things.
By the way, no one wants to go on an exciting IT journey? ) All those who respond positively can try their luck in a contest where 5 tickets for " 3 days with IT @ Intel " are played out . As always, it will be interesting :)
Thank you for your attention. Good luck!

In conclusion, the speakers answered the guests' questions, after which the time came for live communication, where I learned a lot of interesting things.
I had a chance to chat with one teacher, Elena Ilyinichna - she teaches physics at one of Moscow's winning schools. A full-fledged interview did not work out, but overall she told a lot of interesting things.![]() The first thing she noted was that she was really pleased and interesting to try new technologies in education, but, as expected, not everything was so cloudless. In particular, as it turned out, the main problem lies not once in netbooks, but much deeper - in infrastructure, unsystematic and fragmented at all levels. Because of this, a great many small stones appear in education, about which the educational process stumbles all the time. Problems lie literally everywhere - starting from the lack of specialized trained personnel and people who could fully service the new equipment, ending with the lack of (so far) suitable content and even outlets. You can, of course, overtake textbooks into electronic form, but what good will it be? Well, yes, there will be a small savings on textbooks, but no more. On the other hand, nobody will even do this - as long as the state order for all kinds of literature is still alive, where, again, nobody cares about anybody's initiatives there. It’s not so simple with teachers either - someone cannot master new technologies, but someone, on the contrary, considers it a lot of work and give salaries to everyone ... so teach the children to log in somewhere and instill in them the basic principles of working with computer - the tenth thing, though also not easy (in the elementary grades). ![]() Accordingly, all this takes time - different from computer science lessons and other subjects. Where does this all come from? That's right, so far from where ... and only at first glance it seems that everything is simple. Indeed, "and why there - put the children at the desk, turned on the netbooks, launched a quake for them and went to drink coffee - they will figure it out, not small ones." Therefore, the work, in fact, is much more than it seems at first glance ... there are no unsolvable problems, but in this case it is necessary to solve everything together. I really want to believe that soon the educational affairs in the country will go uphill - after all, after 5-6 years to take my son to school) Having learned in my own skin what education is and what its role in life is, I want the child to make the right choices through life, which is impossible without knowledge. I think this is a natural desire of any parents for their child to be successful, because in fact, our future depends on them, our children. Therefore, we reap what we sow. In the meantime, something is sowing very rarely in the country) ![]() It is hoped that EduGalaxy will help the emergence of a strong educational community, whose members can speak “the same language” and help each other. We are always glad to see all those who are not indifferent at our projects - Intel Galaxy / IT Galaxy/ Intel EduGalaxy . |
Thank you for your attention. Good luck!
