IBM Watson supercomputer learned how to create its own recipes

On Habré more than once or more than two wrote about the IBM Watson supercomputer. This system is the center of a new billion-dollar corporation project. The supercomputer is trained to process huge amounts of data, including information about diseases, all kinds of scientific data and ... recipes.

Yes, for two years now the supercomputer has been training so that Watson can create its own dishes, which can be called not only tasty, but also unusual. Well, for example, what about the recipe, where there are ingredients such as chocolate, coffee and garlic? In general, experts are trying to teach Watson to be creative in terms of writing recipes. And, it seems, the training was not in vain.

Now it’s enough to indicate the main component of the dish, the type of dish and the region for which you want to “tailor” your dish (well, for example, Olivier salad is typical for the CIS, chicken noodles are typical for China and more), and the computer will try to choose ingredients so that you get the desired dish, but with a “twist”.

In addition, the system evaluates each recipe (usually in each 12-24 ingredients) according to the possible attractiveness of smell and taste, its unusualness and some other parameters. A little later, says the project team, Watson will be able to make recipes with step-by-step cooking instructions.

By the way, the other day Watson took part in one of the culinary shows. A vote was taken in advance on twitter, the users of which decided on the type of dish that will make up the supercomputer. This dish was kebab.

As a result, Watson chose ingredients such as pork, chicken, strawberries, shiitake mushrooms, pineapple, apples, green onions, carrots, lemon, lime, mint and curry seasoning. Needless to say, none of the chefs have so far prepared kebabs from such products.

At the same time, it turned out that the cooked kebab was tasty, and cooks who knew how to evaluate the taste of cooked dishes made an assessment.

It may well be that in the near future we will be able to read recipe books compiled by the Watson supercomputer and marvel at the unusual taste of familiar dishes.
