Google sells Lenovo Motorola Mobility to Lenovo

It seems that the Chinese company Lenovo has very good stocks of money, because only recently this company bought the server business from IBM for 2.3 billion dollars , and now it spends almost 3 billion dollars to buy Motorola Mobility. Thanks to the purchase, the Chinese company gets a very wide access to the American market.

It seems that Google has decided to sell Motorola in parts, leaving itself a patent portfolio of this company. It is worth noting that the Good Corporation bought Motorola for $ 12.5 billion in 2012. A little later, Google sold a division of this company that produces set-top boxes for 2.5 billion. By the way, then, in 2012, Google announced plans for the purchased company , and some of them were even completed.

Now, Google will get another 2.91 billion dollars. With Motorola, the company receives 2,000 patents and a license to use Google’s remaining Motorola patents. Very good for Lenovo, because with such an asset, the Chinese company is becoming a fairly serious player in the smartphone market (this company was not the weakest in this market, by the way). It is worth noting that Lenovo will pay partly for the purchase in money (660 million dollars), partly in shares (750 million), and then another 1.5 billion in money (over 3 years).

In a message to the employees of this company, the Google leadership said that it considers the best fate for Motorola to work at Lenovo, where Motorola Mobility will be able to fully immerse themselves in the development and production of smartphones - what this company does best.
