Motorola will use 3D printing to produce Project Ara modular phone

Not so long ago, the news about Motorola’s modular smartphone was published on Habré, in which it will be possible to upgrade individual modules, adding RAM, replacing the processor, etc., instead of replacing the whole device. So, Google Motorola announced a partnership with 3D Systems, a manufacturer of Cube 3D printers, with the goal of developing "modular smartphones with customization options that allow users to create a gadget of their choice."

It may well be that some modules, or cases for modules, can be printed at home, of course, this requires a 3D printer. Well, or order a "printout" of such modules from companies that perform 3D printing on request. The main thing is that the 3D models of individual modules should be accessible to everyone - then really, the user will be able to design his own modules, in any case, their design.

Generally speaking, according to the Project Ara project, the hardware of this smartphone will be an “ecosystem” open to everyone. Of course, the large-scale implementation of the project is still far away, but important steps to achieve this goal are already being implemented.
