PicUntu 4.5 installer: an easy way to install Ubuntu on devices with Rockchip RK3188

Back in January, news was published on Habré about a new Linux distribution, PicUntu, designed to install Ubuntu on devices with Rockchip RK3188 (mainly mini-PCs, TV boxes, etc.). Now there is a GUI installer that allows you to install this distribution kit without any problems, which not very experienced users can handle.

PicUntu is based on Ubuntu 13.04 and uses lightweight Xfce. In basic applications you can find a browser, text editor, console application. The distribution itself is lightweight to a minimum, since usually the devices PicUntu is designed for have very little internal memory. If there are not enough applications, you can always install GIMP, LibreOffice and other applications using the Synaptic Package Manager.

Unfortunately, the current distribution still does not support hardware video acceleration or Bluetooth. However, in devices such as the T518 Android TV, for example, processor power is enough to “pull out” video in 720p HD quality.

According to those who have already familiarized themselves with the new distribution, the system works fast enough on TV sticks, so for $ 50-80 (this is the price of such devices) you can get a full-fledged PC. Of course, video editing on such a computer is unlikely to work, however, office tasks and so on - all this can be done without problems.

Detailed instructions for using the installer can be found here .
