LS3 walking robot will be quiet and insensitive to $ 10 million bullets

Back in December last year, on Habré they wrote about a walking robot, which was created to help the military. It is capable of carrying about 180 kilograms of cargo at a distance of 30+ kilometers. You can control the robot both by voice and by radio commands, while the robot is able to see in the dark, determine the leading person, and follow this person steadily. This robot is doing well, but there is one significant drawback.
Namely - it is very noisy. The noise emitted by the robot is able to put on the ears of all enemies within a radius of a couple of kilometers. Quietly pass at night all the more it will not work. Realizing that such a robot is unlikely to be enthusiastically accepted by the military, DARPA will spend $ 10 million to make this robot quiet and bulletproof by 2015. Probably, not all types of bullets can be ignored by the robot, but at least it will not fall after the first hit from a standard weapon.

And yes, the robot will be developed, as before, by Boston Dynamics, a company committed to provide a new “robot-mule” model by March 31, 2015. By the way, the noise made by the robot earlier is explained by the features of the hydraulic system. Now it will be changed, so that the robot will cease to make noise.
