Nvidia Shield review and tests

Good day. In this article, I will talk about personal “experiences” that I had to experience when I got Nvidia Shield in my hands.

Next - video and many photos ...

The prefix officially went on sale on July 31, although it was originally planned to begin deliveries on the 27th of the same month. Nvidia explained this by the fact that there were minor mechanical problems on the part of one of the suppliers.

In addition, Shield appeared on store shelves at a price of $ 300, but Nvidia wanted to sell it at a price of $ 350. But we are only better off.

Now the mobile console is available only in the USA and Canada. I think that the manufacturer "tests" the markets, studying the demand. Perhaps the prefix will appear soon in Russia, as the first sales results were very good. Zen-Sun Huang, executive director of Nvidia, noted that console sales are excellent - everything that Nvidia put in the first phase was sold.

The first thing that strikes the eye is the “coolness” of the console. Shield is very high quality made and assembled.

Outwardly, it resembles an Xbox joystick, although in its structure it resembles a PlayStation gamepad: D-Pad on the left, game buttons on the right, two sticks at the bottom. At the end of a pair of additional game buttons.

The upper metal plate is easily removable. It is on magnets and can be replaced.

You already realized that this device is a really powerful thing. This is confirmed by tests:

    AnTuTu

    GeekBench 2 The

main feature of Shield is the ability to play games from a PC, through high-quality streaming and instant feedback.

But in order for your computer to "pull", you need at least a GeForce GTX 650 or GeForce GTX 660M graphics card for a laptop, an Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7. This is a minimum. By the way, AMD support is also present.

    How it works?

First you need to download the Nvidia GeForce Experience to your computer. In general, this is a program for debugging drivers, so many GeForce users have installed it for a long time. Everything works automatically, now all that is needed is to connect the PC and Shield to the same Wi-Fi network and connect to the computer on the console. This is done in a special program, from where in the end you will start the game.

The cool thing is that before starting any of the games you do not need to configure or click anything. You don’t even need to touch the computer - they turned on Shield and started the game with it. Naturally, Steam is also supported, it can also be controlled from the console.

Surprisingly, everything works perfectly. Only occasionally can you see a decrease in video quality, but I have Belkin PlayMax - the most disgusting router in the world, (do not buy it for anything!) So this is completely justified.

Watching the graphics of Crysis 3 on such a small HD-display - you understand that mobile games still need time to "grow". In addition, playing with buttons and sticks is really convenient. Do not be surprised at my conclusions, I just do not play games at all, but even me, an “anti-gamer”, was struck by this thing.

Shield has a very capacious battery - 7350 mAh, Nvidia promised 24 hours of video playback. I could not verify this, although two days of heavy use with games and Wi-Fi planted the device from 100% to 30%.

The most important question is - is this a finished product? The product is definitely ready and ready for work and defense. The only thing that can confuse is the support of a small number of games [ list]. In addition, the program checks almost all games for authenticity, and for many this is also a problem.

Another factor for sadness is the lack of a front camera. She really wouldn’t interfere ...

Well, in general, the device leaves super-positive impressions. I even wanted to buy, but I know that for me it is for a couple of weeks. Nvidia Shield, it seems to me, is waiting for the future. It is still “foggy”, but if Qualcomm, Apple or Samsung do not introduce another revolutionary processor and video core within a year, Shield will definitely occupy its niche.

The conclusion that playing PC games while sitting on the toilet is a good way to kill time is a sure one. Although in childhood this could be offset by reading the journals Science and Life.
