University What can he give?

After reading several articles about education at universities today, I wanted to express my thoughts in a post. I do not pretend to be original, but it seems to me that some thoughts may be interesting.

    What the university teaches:

    Learns to learn

There are different teachers and different disciplines, but in order to pass the training manual only fifteen minutes later, you need talent and luck. It took me 2-3 weeks to complete the course to understand it. Yes, I did it in triples, but from several retakeings, but in the end I knew the material well.

    Teaches to communicate

In my second year, I realized that skipping lectures and practices is not comme il faut, which means that I need to look for a way that would suit me and the teacher. I found such a way out - to do complicated tasks (an analogue of a course student, but without nitpicking to design). I came across really interesting tasks, the implementation of which I was proud of, and this not only provided new knowledge, but also brought communication with teachers to a new level.

Another example, communication training - a philosophy teacher - Tatyana Ivanovna R (well, suddenly someone will find out). At the time I passed her course - she was 84! of the year. A man of the old school, a militant atheist who could expel the whole group, regardless of the offerings of flowers and sweets. At the exam, she needed to explain that you were not a complete ignoramus, and it was very difficult to do this, for her enormous teaching experience, she knew the works of all philosophers almost by heart, and I knew one or two. By the way, as a result, my exam was reduced to a discussion of these two philosophers.

    Teaches to work

Yes, dear reader, it is to work. When you have several tails and you just need to take and learn / write a term paper / defend laboratory work. “Just get up and do your mother!” (someone from an American movie)

What the university will never teach:

    How to make a million

You are given a basis of knowledge of how you manage it - your business. I missed something - then it’s very difficult to catch up: the memory is not the same; there is no competent person who understands the topic; laziness; shame (well, I personally feel ashamed when I do not know the basic things).

    Super modern technology in IT

The approval and preparation of the curriculum is not an easy task, as it seems to me because of the education system. But technology is updated every four years.

How to become a “super-duper professional”

Practice is needed, knowledge is useless without it. The theoretical approach to IT can be very different from the practical one.

    A few points from myself:
    - If I went to all classes at the university, I would be very ashamed not to get a red diploma, then what is taught is a real basis.
    - Now it’s very difficult for me to catch up with some courses, especially higher mathematics.
    - I worked almost from the first year of study at the institute. Practical experience is just as valuable as theoretical knowledge.
    - You need to learn constantly! And not just in college.
    - People without a diploma may be excellent developers, but may not be. The same is true for people with diplomas, certificates, awards and orders.
