AOSP for Sony Xperia Z
Remember our open source Android project (AOSP) for Sony Xperia S ? Due to the great interest in him, we decided to create AOSP for Xperia Z. This means that Xperia Z software will be open to developers for use and development. In this way, we continue to support the open Android community. For us, it is also an opportunity to increase the AOSP contribution to the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 platform.
As well as the AOSP project for Xperia S, the AOSP for Xperia Z will be supported by Johan Redestig and Björn Andersson, Sony's senior software engineers. Now you will find the AOSP project code for Xperia Z when you visit the Sony repository on GitHub .
To launch this project, we provided some source files to Developers World. Binary files that are specific to a particular chipset - for example, device drivers - are the property of Qualcomm, to download them you must accept the terms of the license agreement, which indicates which files are allowed to use and what restrictions exist. Keep in mind that this software is not intended for everyday use and does not include applications and services that are part of the standard smartphone software. Assembly instructions are in the Readme file on GitHub.
However, many features already work. The smartphone loads, supports SD cards, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, backlight, touch sensors (partially). And, as you can see in the video above, we also launch the call and camera functions. But they require their own binary files, which we, unfortunately, cannot publish now.
If you want to support AOSP for Xperia Z, check out the source code and current issues to see where you can help us. You can contribute to the project through GitHub.
Looking ahead, we say that the next step in this project is to replace some binary files with the source files presented on Developer World, and release compiled files for working with NFC. To get the latest project status, check out the repository on GitHub. And feel free to drop us a comment if you have any questions. We hope that many developers will be interested and take part in this project!
