Ubuntu Maverick Added Drivers For Apple Magic Trackpad!
- Transfer
Earlier, habras reported that Canonical is developing full support for multi-finger gestures and multi-touch devices.
Now, Chase Douglas has announced that support for the Apple Magic Trackpad has been added to the existing kernel drivers for the Magic Mouse, and the corresponding changes have been accepted both in Ubuntu and in the upstream - in the HID tree developed by Jiri Kosina and awaiting merging with the main tree Linus Torvalds.
The specified functionality will be included in Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 and, as Chase hopes, in 2.6.37 kernel.
This driver has yet another problem: the protocol used by the device is unique, and because of this, working with HID Layer causes a lot of difficulties. Ubuntu uses workarounds to solve these problems, but Michael Poole has a patch that should solve the problem once and for all. Chase plans to properly test this patch, after which he, if positive, will also be sent to the upstream.
