Donate, Liters and Copyright
In the wake of several articles about Litres ( 1 , 2 , 3 ), I went to their site and looked for the books of my father, Svyatoslav Loginov .
Books, of course, were found in large numbers. I called dad - the agreement was, but ended several years ago. If everything is correct, then it turns out that Liters is now trading these books illegally, in the sense of illegally profiting, violating copyrights.

Funny irony, agree. In principle, one letter to Apple indicating this glaring fact was enough to send Liters to the ban ...
On the other hand, all my father’s novels and novels have long and reliably been posted on the same filibust. And dad never fought them. If one can, then why not the other?
Now they write a lot about the benefits of piracy for promoting the author and about donate as the future of the literary industry.
A year and a half ago, I suggested dad to verify this statement in practice and invite readers to transfer any amounts for works read on the Internet. He refused for a long time - because it was embarrassing, because "well, how so" and "there are publishers." Persuaded.
Set up payment via PayPal, Moneybooker (Skrill), Webmoney, Yandex Money, Qiwi. In general, almost anyone can use a terminal, card or Internet money to make a transfer of any size. No more complicated than paying for a phone.
The experiment turned out to be damn successful by the standards of donate. The most successful of all science fiction writers who have tried it. In the first two weeks, 130,000 rubles were raised. The report can be read in LiveJournal Loginov . There you can find details .
And then everything. Over the next year and a half, another 30,000 rubles came. 160,000 in a year and a half - and this is with the author with a couple of dozen awards and a dozen novels. Most of this amount came from a dozen fans, for whom it was more important to help the beloved author than somehow pay for his work. Whatever they say here - but donate, this is half charity and philanthropy. It’s always a bit of “asking.” Even if given from the heart.
And the second point - donate - is not just like that. In order for him to work somehow, he needs to be engaged. Not just writing good novels and short stories, but engaging in the notorious marketing and sales. All the things that publishers should do well.
Although on the other hand, many are sure that the author should be hungry, because only in this way he gets good novels. Is not it?
