Kyocera - a little about the little things

    Once upon a time I had a very positive experience communicating with Kyocera printers. Years later, I was lucky to become an employee of the official sales representative of Kioser Document Solutions Rus. Of course, now I am constantly connected with Kyocera equipment - both as an employee of an office equipment manufacturing company and as an employee in the office where this equipment is used, and in the past also as an administrator. In general, the idea of ​​creating a couple of popular articles for the official blog of our company on Habré seemed to me a perfectly feasible task.

    Welcome to the cat, where there is a little bit of history and a little bit of what is called little things, but in the complex can be of great importance.



    This year the company celebrated 53 years in the market. The Kyocera inscription does not loom on every corner, but we come across the company's products more often than we imagine. For example, the labels Yashica and Contax used to be popular, but now Qualcomm is rumored. You can see the general description in the Wiki, where there is not much information, but it is enough for acquaintance. The company's historical and core business is ceramics, which is directly reflected in the name: Kyocera - Kyoto Ceramics. Hence, the ability to work with silicon, and where silicon is, there is digital technology. The company's annual turnover is $ 3 billion, and is growing steadily, so doubts about the scale and success of the company are unnecessary. It is important to understand that the printing and photocopying business of Kyocera is the result of a merger with Mita Industrial in 2000 and, accordingly, the addition of technology from two manufacturers.

    The market for document processing devices is saturated and it’s hard to compete on it; besides, I'm sorry for the banality, there is definitely no “better” device in any area. For some, speed is important, for someone print resolution, someone is looking for a printer in the color of office furniture. As for Kyocera, then, of course, all the main parameters - quality, speed, safety, etc., are made at a very high level. However, this is a necessary, but not sufficient condition to differ from competitors in the best direction. There must be something else. And this “yet” is also present. Firstly, the company has one of the lowest in the industry, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). What can better attract a buyer than the opportunity to get all the same as that of competitors, but cheaper? And, nevertheless, even champion OSV is not enough to win,

    Many little things are indispensable for the industry, such as sound insulation over the entire sound range and especially in the field of high frequencies, coolers for internal electronics with reduced noise level. This does not affect the print result, but is it important? Of course. Some solutions are implemented at the technology level, for example, Kyocera devices do not need filters for ozone, since its extraction is reduced to zero by the very principle of operation: the photo drum is not charged by a corotron, but by a charging shaft, and also positively charged. There is no air gap, which means there is no ozone. You must admit that it’s hard to sell a printer rattling like a tractor or smelling like an entire office, so I won’t stay on obligatory decisions, but tell you what I liked about unusualness:

    • A shift of the pressure shaft relative to the heating shaft by about 20 degrees compared to the classical scheme and the addition of additional guides led to the fact that the stack of documents in the drive does not tend to become a roll - the sheets are straightened in advance. Simple and elegant.

    • The color screen is used on devices even from lower price segments. Of course, thumbnails of documents will also be shown in color, this is clear and saves from confusion.

    • Submission of documents of the same size for scanning is no longer mandatory - you can easily put stacks of mixed papers into the receiver. The degree of effect of such an innovation in advertising materials is described as “dramatically”, and, I agree with the characteristic.

    • A USB host for a USB flash drive for scanned documents, or vice versa, for those ready for printing, will always be at hand, and not in the area of ​​the back wall, as it sometimes happens.

    • Color calibration occurs between copies, in several steps, but most importantly - without loss of time and imperceptibly to the user ...

    • In paper trays, pens have a normal shape, it is convenient to take them both from above and from below. A trifle? But it’s convenient!

    • A penny sticker in a tray with a schematic drawing of the paper feed direction and print side eliminates puzzles in the style of “How to scan two turns of a passport on one sheet?” I was often puzzled by this when meeting with some other printers, and guessed, by the way, almost always, but only on the second attempt. (I note that recently such designations have appeared in everyone, so it may no longer be an advantage)

    • Do you know why the entire printable area of ​​Kyocera devices is dark in color? Because it usually sets off white documents, they are easier to select.

    • And for large models there is a slot on top so that even without bows you can see what exactly is being printed at the moment.

    • Built-in browser. It would seem ... But it may be useful.
