Mozilla makes its mobile OS under the Firefox brand



    Mozilla today announced plans to launch the “new fully open mobile ecosystem based on HTML5 ” under the Firefox brand . Allegedly, the Firefox OS operating system will be developed entirely on open web standards and all device capabilities can be developed as HTML5 applications.

    Mozilla has already agreed to cooperate with operators Deutsche Telekom , Etisalat , Smart , Sprint , Telecom Italia , Telefónica and Telenor. TCL Communication Technology (under the Alcatel One Touch brand ) and ZTE will make devices on the new platform .

    They will use a processor Snapdragon by Qualcomm's . The first device on the Firefox OS will be available in Brazil in early 2013 under the brand Vivo operator Telefónica .

    Firefox OS for mobile devices is developed on the basis of the Boot to Gecko project , which allows HTML5 applications to access the basic capabilities of the phone, previously available only for native applications.

    The platform will be optimized for entry-level smartphones, and with the help of low prices, Mozilla expects to gain a foothold in emerging markets.
