MTS will cut torrents
MTS mobile operator announced a change in the conditions for the provision of communication services from June 30, 2012 on the tariff options “BIT”, “SuperBIT”, “All that is needed” and their modifications. As stated in an official statement, "the provision of some actively used communication protocols will be limited to prevent overloading the overall network infrastructure and ensuring high-quality network operation."
MTS blog-secretary Marina Akulich explained that we are talking about limiting torrents, and Skype and other VoIP services will not be affected.
“The massive use of certain Internet resources leads to an increase in the load on the network, which reduces the data transfer rate for all network users,” the operator justifies its actions.
To users of torrent networks, MTS recommends “to support a larger volume of requests, connect any of the tariff options“ Unlimited-Mini ”,“ Unlimited-Maxi ”,“ Unlimited-Super ”,“ Unlimited-VIP ”or any service“ Turbo-button ”” .
Of course, such an ISP policy is fundamentally contrary to the rules of network neutrality, which, unfortunately, have not yet been defined in Russia at the legislative level.
