Samsung and Apple Patent War: 50+ lawsuits in 10 countries

Two dozens of topics with the tag " patent wars " were published on Habré , and the lion's share of them describe local episodes of the epic battle of Samsung and Apple.

German patent law expert Florian Mueller, on his blog, counted the lawsuits that are currently pending - and found more than 50 lawsuits in 10 countries : the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, South Korea , Japan and Australia.

In addition to the aforementioned lawsuits, the proceedings between Samsung and Apple are separately dealt with by the European Commission. It is unlikely that there will be examples in history of such a large-scale patent battle between two corporations. Moreover, the list is probably not complete. It contains only those claims that were found. All of them were registered between April 2011 (when the patent war was unleashed) and April 25, 2012. The actual number of claims, according to Mueller, may be closer to a hundred.

On May 21-22, Samsung and Apple will meet in San Francisco to negotiate reconciliation. At the request of the California court, the main lawyers and executive directors of the two companies should participate in the negotiations. Two sessions of negotiations will begin every day at 9:30 in the morning.

Florian Muller notes: given the scale of the unfolding battle, it will be very difficult for them to reach an agreement. Although Tim Cook formally called for reconciliation , he also mentioned Apple's “innovation”, which Samsung has largely denied. So the deep-seated conflict between the two largest manufacturers of smartphones and tablets in the world remains unresolved: did Apple really “invent” the iPad and iPhone, or simply realize the good ideas that existed before ?
