Ultrabook for ultrabook

Intel is not only fast processors, but also recently chipsets for 3G modems.
The first such chipset was Intel XMM6260, and the hero of today's review will be the Hi-Universe E369 modem, developed by Huawei based on it.
Today it is the most compact 3G modem with a USB interface.

The device weighs 20 grams and its thickness is only 8mm.
The modem supports 5 bands: 850/900 / AWS / 1900 / 2100M. Thus, the user can access the network from anywhere in the world. Pleasures are not limited to this. It is stated that a modem on a chipset from Intel consumes 30% less energy than models on chips from other manufacturers.

Ancient wisdom says: “Everything is known by comparison,” so I picked up an opponent for our hero - the branded modem Megaphone E173, also manufactured by Huawei. I think I will not be mistaken if I call it one of the most common.

Both models were tested in the same place, at the same time, with a megaphone sim card. Measurements of speed were carried out several times, the results differed slightly.

As can be seen from the table, a device based on the Intel chipset is two times lighter and much more compact than its ancestor. In addition, due to the increased sensitivity, it shows a higher speed. The fact that it does not reach a maximum of 21 Mbit / s, you need to blame my poor location relative to the towers of the mobile operator and / or network load.

The price of the E369 is two times higher, but you need to keep in mind that it is sold not tied to any particular operator. A thin and concise design that goes well with ultrabooks (pictured above Lenovo Ideapad U300s) is another argument to part with an extra 1000 rubles.

The E369 looks very organically paired with the little MacBook Air:

Pay attention to the modem cap; it is no coincidence that it lies on the device itself. The fact is that it is equipped with magnets and sticks to the modem case. In addition to solving the question “where to put the cap when the modem is connected”, this inspires confidence that it will not get loose from frequent use and will not be lost:

In addition to the white-gray version that fell into my hands, modems from Huawei are also delivered 7 colors:

Huawei Cloud Service - Cloud +

The small size of the device did not allow to place a microSD card slot, Huawei compensates for this by providing access to its cloud service Cloud + . Users of the company's devices get an impressive 160GB for free.

UP. The cloud service for these models is still under testing, and the amount of available cloud space has not yet been determined.

    Conclusion

It remains to be happy for Intel. The first pancake did not come out lumpy, and the company made its excellent debut in a new market for itself, and Huawei managed to take full advantage of the new chipset and produce a compact and attractive device.
