Microsoft crossed SPDY and WebSockets

Microsoft has published its proposal for the future HTTP 2.0 protocol, which is currently being discussed in the IETF working group. The draft they published is called HTTP Speed + Mobility .

As you know, Google suggests taking the SPDY protocol as the basis for HTTP 2.0 , with the help of which you can significantly increase the speed of loading sites via HTTP. Microsoft experts agree with this, but in their version added HTML5 snippets of WebSockets API. In their opinion, this is especially useful for the mobile web. “We think applications - not just browsers - should be faster, too,” wrote Jean Paoli, general manager of the Microsoft Compatibility Strategy , on the official blog.

SPDY co-author Mike Belshepositively spoke about colleagues from Microsoft, expressed hope for further cooperation and the emergence of open source implementation of their protocol. However, he noted that the thesis “SPDY is not optimized for mobile devices” is not true. Belshe himself now works at Twist, which develops mobile applications optimized for SPDY. For example, here is the implementation of SPDY for iPhone (github).
