Orangutans mastered the iPad and started calling relatives

For six months, volunteers from the Orangutan Outreach charity at the Milwaukee Zoo trained local orangutans to work with the iPad - and made considerable progress. Monkeys mastered FaceTime video chat and started calling their relatives to other zoos on their own.

Reportedly, the choice of films and programs is different for each individual. For example, the 31-year-old MJ, due to his age, prefers a quiet documentary with beautiful landscapes. Without exception, everyone likes to watch a video with their participation, as well as when a familiar orangutan from a neighboring cell is present on the video.

Orangutan Outreach employees first set up webcams in different parts of the zoo to let the animals watch their neighbors. Then they decided to develop the idea and organized a video chat.

In addition to video chat, orangutans love games and entertainment applications from the App Store. Among the games among monkeys, the Flick Football arcade is popular , and from the programs, the application for drawing Doodle Buddy (in the photo below).

Both of these applications have a fairly high rating in the App Store and are among the most popular among people. This is not surprising, because orangutans are considered one of the closest relatives of a person. They are very similar to us in many ways: for example, they like to pose in front of the camera and suffer from tobacco dependence.
