Lexand LT-115 and Lexand LT-117 Electronic Multimedia Readers

Laboratory “Lexand” not so long ago released a whole line of devices for reading, both based on electronic ink, and with a TFT-display with uniform illumination.
Today on the test there are two models of the second category - LT-115 and LT-117, costing from 2500 rubles. for the younger model and from 2900 p. for the eldest.
Two multimedia books differ in screen size, battery size and the presence of FM-radio in the older model.
Therefore, in fact, a review of one of the models, everything is true in relation to the second. (I will say about the differences separately)

    1. Options, packaging.

The book is packed in a box made of high-quality cardboard with good printing and designed for the binding of a regular book. The information on the packaging is complete, including technical specifications and the telephone number of those. support.
The only gripe is the color scheme, it could be done more happily.
If you choose a book as a gift, you just have to dress it with a beautiful ribbon - additional packaging is not required.

A leather cover is supplied with the book. zama with dense inserts, which can serve as a stand when watching videos or photos. The presence of a cover pleases, because not all devices can be found in retail for a suitable case / cover. This is a definite plus.
Also included is a charger, sync cable, headphones, warranty card. The presence of charging with its own connector always surprised me, this is the trend of this manufacturer. Given that the book is charging via USB, you could just insert a universal adapter with a USB port. Well, oh well, there is and good that is. We assume that this is a duplication of charging functions.

    2. Appearance, connectors, communication.

The case of both books is made mostly of black plastic with a soft touch coating, the ends are of matte plastic painted in silver.

If you hold the book in portrait orientation, under the screen is the power on / return button to the main menu, in fact these are two buttons hidden by the rocker button. If on the younger model the button is pressed clearly, without squeaking and backlash, then in the older one it is larger, which makes it slightly backlash and causes a feeling of unreliable construction. I will say right away that it did not cause any false positives or other problems, so this is more likely from the category of sensations. To the right of the screen, the up / down buttons, in the main menu, perform the functions of changing the volume, in the reading mode they can scroll through the pages.
At the bottom there are all available ports, a device shutdown lever, a slot for a memory card.

No wireless communication modules are provided; communication with the computer is via a USB-miniUSB cable.

    3. Functions:

The younger model has the following menu items: Books, Films, Music, Photos, Explorer, Voice Recorder, Settings, Calendar, Player.

In the older one, the FM radio item has been added, and the Player item has been removed. Which is logical, because he duplicates the item Music, this is the same thing.

By the way, I still did not understand how to replace the background image in the main menu ;-)

Books: see the table below for a list of supported formats.

    Reading mode

In any application where full-screen viewing is provided, the menu is called up by a long tap on the screen. You can change the font, color, size, etc. The settings are standard and similar to those in other multimedia books. The icons are large, the sensitivity is normal, it is easy to adapt.
The page turning speed is high compared to e-ink.
Plus - you can read in any light, minus - your eyes get tired at any brightness and font.

Music: nothing particularly wise, select music through the conductor and listen. Logically, the picture of the album is supported, but I did not find out how the file should be named and where it should be located.

The radio does not work without headphones.

Movies: it’s very interesting here - not only many formats are supported, but also soft-sub. A nice plus for language learners or for anime lovers.

Photo: You can view the photo either simply in Explorer or in full screen, in the “large active photo + thumbnails of other photos” mode, as well as in a slide show mode for which various effects are set. I did not like the icons in the photo viewing settings, because it is not clear from the icon what exactly it should do, although the size of the icons is convenient for touch control and they are drawn qualitatively.

    So, the conclusions:

Before us are two readers of the "entry level", with advanced multimedia functions, aimed at users with the needs not only of reading, but also of other multimedia capabilities.

A 5-inch model can be used by girls, it will fit even in the smallest handbag, and the complete cover will protect from keys and files. Guys may not take a bag at all, but put a book in a jeans pocket, for example.

A 7-inch book is a book of a standard size already, such can be seen every day in the subway and not one. It has a more capacious battery, but the power consumption of the screen is also higher.

On average, enough full charge for 2 days is not very active use. It can be charged both from USB and from the network via the charger.

The book is probably not suitable for young children, because It has no built-in games and there is no way to reinstall them. In any case, a quite worthy gift option for little money, but with great opportunities. The packaging can be called gift without stretch, and the set is redundant.
Would I take such a book for myself? I think no. I would buy for the same money a PDA with a large number of network modules.
But for advanced users, I would advise something like that - simple controls, a simple menu, convenient movie viewing, and even with subtitles, if necessary.

Photos in higher resolution can be viewed in the album on Yandex .

    Thanks for attention.
