IT services scored on security

In 2007, Oracle and the Ponemon Institute conducted a survey of IT professionals on the degree of security of corporate computer systems (sample of 1000+ IT professionals). Then 42% of respondents honestly admitted that their companies do not pay enough attention to network security issues, however, half of the respondents “optimistically” noted that in case of trouble, the victims will be identified and warned.

According to Symantec, a computer security and antivirus software company, for 29 years, the smaller the company, the less its concern about the security of its corporate communications. But at the same time, as the same Symantec stateSince the beginning of 2010, 40% of targeted attacks were on networks of small companies - with less than 500 employees.

The reason for carelessness is not clear, because IT specialists themselves (54% of those surveyed from 1900) agreed that malware could cause a decrease in overall productivity, and 36% see dubious software as a threat of hacker intrusion. “This will lead to a loss of company revenue,” summarizes 46% of respondents.

It would be dishonest to think that neglecting the protection of your own data is a disease that only small companies suffer from. At the beginning of 2011, the object of study was the internal network of Russian large companies operating in strategically important sectors for the state. It turned out that a third of corporations have less than adequate requirements for protecting the internal network and corporate correspondence, in addition, there is no organized monitoring of information security, and there is no plan for emergency recovery of the information system. 20% of large domestic companies ignore information security incidents, more than a third of managers underestimate the risks of insecure information.

The issue of improving and developing information security systems does not lose its relevance: in early 2011, Intelsingled it out among key IT trends for the coming 12 months.

Similar predictions were also voiced by Oracle and the Ponemon Institute. And there is a suspicion that in a few years we will also read articles about the boom in demand for IT security solutions, and our colleagues will remain indifferent to vendor statistics.
