Mobile solutions are becoming a popular destination for startups.

The results of accepting applications for the Web Ready 2011 contest have been summed up . 579 applications were submitted, which is a third more compared to 2010. Does this mean that Internet business is becoming more popular in Russia ?! It became interesting to us to analyze the projects. As a result, we learned which direction is becoming popular for start-ups, from which cities most of the projects, to which universities you need to go to help the project in development and what specialty to get.

The leaders among the cities that represent Internet startups are still St. Petersburg and Moscow (175 and 123 applications, respectively). But their share of the total number of applications this year has decreased. If in 2010, of the two capitals, 61% of all applications were submitted, then in this - 51%. Due to this, the share of Internet projects from other regions of Russia has grown significantly.

The third place in the number of applications was taken by Novosibirsk - 25, which showed the most significant growth, with the exception of St. Petersburg, compared with the previous year (+20 applications), followed by Yekaterinburg - 23 (+15) and Perm - 23 (+17) . Among the cities representing foreign countries, Minsk became the leader - 15 applications, which was replaced by Kiev, which was the first with 9 applications last year. Of the foreign countries, the most applications were submitted from Ukraine - 21, Belarus - 16 and Latvia - 4. The

popularity of creating a business on the Internet is clearly growing and comes to the regions. The quality of start-ups is also growing, more and more information on creating an innovative business can be obtained on the Internet and it is not necessary to live in Silicon Valley or a metropolis.

The most popular areas of projects, like last year, were Web projects and SaaS solutions (they accounted for 42% of applications). The most significant increase in the number of projects happened in the direction of mobile applications. If last year 55 projects from this sphere were submitted, then this year - 139 (!). A significant increase in the number of projects in the field of mobile technologies reflects the trend of today, when new effective solutions for mobile devices are in demand by consumers. You can clearly see the development trend of projects on the charts for 2009-2011.
