Technical excursion to the TEL data center
In our posts on Habré, we already wrote about the working days of our employees and how work is organized inside the TEL Hosting company . Now it’s the turn to talk about the infrastructure and equipment of our data center.
The TEL data center is located in the East of Moscow, in the Preobrazhensky administrative business center, on Elektrozavodskaya street, 24. The building has a convenient car entrance and its own parking. Nearby are the metro station Elektrozavodskaya and Preobrazhenskaya. The TEL data center, like the entire business center in which it is located, is under round-the-clock qualified security. In addition, there is a technical support service located in the data center, also working around the clock.

All approaches to the building, the entrance to the premises of the data center, the control room and the pressure zone are under external and internal video surveillance. Access to the building is through passes. To get inside the data center itself is possible only by prior arrangement. Inside the operator’s room and hermetic zone, perfect cleanliness is observed. Dry and wet cleaning is regularly carried out. Absolutely all visitors to the data center are required to wear shoe covers issued at the entrance. Such strict "hospital" procedures apply to the data center employees themselves.

We allow customers to the data center to work with their equipment, but at the same time, the presence of our employees is mandatory, so other server owners may not worry about their safety. The entrance to the containment zone of the DC is equipped with the Abloy castle system and electronic access identification. Not only strangers will not be able to get inside. Not all TEL Hosting employees have access. In this case, the system operates in one-way mode. In order to leave the containment area, the use of electronic keys is not required, therefore, in case of emergency situations inside, it will not be difficult to leave the room.

Our engineers regularly monitor the operation of the equipment. In the event of any malfunctions or abnormal situations, employees will instantly receive an appropriate notification (including SMS notification). Information about the operation of equipment inside the data center is constantly read from the sensors and transmitted to the data center operators using its own SimpleView monitoring system. If necessary, the necessary adjustments are introduced. In addition, qualified data center engineers regularly carry out preventive maintenance provided for in the regulations.

The TEL data center uses focused cooling i.e. the focus is on the maximum cooling of IT equipment (which, in fact, is the essence of the data center air conditioning system), and the racks are located according to the architecture of the cold / hot corridors manufactured by Canovate. In the "cold" corridor, raised floor slabs with perforation 38% produced by Jansen (Belgium) are used.

The raised floor of the Jansen brand, which is used in our data center, has a load capacity of 1.5 tons per square meter, but even so, all the heavy equipment stands on its own frames. All communications necessary for the life of the data center are under raised floors. Plates are installed in a joint, without fastening, therefore, if necessary, communications are provided with quick access. The height of the raised floor from the base to the finish coating in the TEL Data Center is one meter. In addition, we note that the floors in our data center comply with all regulatory requirements and documents.


TEL data center applies advanced fire extinguishing and fire prevention technologies. During construction, non-combustible materials were used. On the territory of the operator’s and hermetic zones, and even under the raised floor, fire sensors and indicators are installed. The possibility of a fire is virtually eliminated. Nevertheless, the availability of fire extinguishing equipment in the data center is mandatory. Our data center uses a gas extinguishing system using the latest generation of extinguishing agent - Novec 1230.

The main advantage of gas means of neutralizing fires is the absence of harm to equipment, unlike foam, water or powder extinguishing methods, since gases do not conduct electricity. The gas used is completely safe for humans, it has no color and odor. Fire suppression is achieved by displacing oxygen with a Novec 1230 gas. It resembles water in the type of exposure, but does it more efficiently. Novec 1230 even received the nickname - "dry water". The gas outlet is carried out from nozzles distributed over the entire area of the data center.


Comfortable conditions for server equipment in terms of temperature and humidity are provided by a precision air conditioning system of Italian production De Longhi according to the N + 2 system, with a cooling capacity of 79.7 kW each (air flow 27,000 m3 / h) with integrated steam humidifiers. Our data center is equipped with a drainage system for pumping water, in case of flooding, and a condensate drainage system. To detect water, special sensors are used under the raised floor. The external air conditioning units are located in the courtyard of the business center. They are located in two floors on a specially constructed site. The standard distance to the wall of 0.8 meters allows employees to carry out the necessary preventive work with the equipment in comfortable conditions.


The diesel generator manufactured by MNPO Energospetstekhnika has in its base a generator of the French company Genelec and uses an MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH brand engine. This company has been part of DaimlerChrysler AG for more than 30 years and is a recognized world leader in the production of diesel engines for use in various fields of industry, technology, transport and energy. The location of the unit in the parking of the business center is convenient for the access of trucks and makes it possible to refuel the diesel generator. The fuel in it is enough for 8 hours of work at full load of the data center. Every month, scheduled testing of the system for automatically entering the reserve and starting the diesel generator is conducted.
