Google will buy Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars

Google and Motorola Mobility have concluded an agreement according to which the search giant will acquire the former Motorola mobile office at $ 40 per share, that is, for about $ 12.5 billion.

After announcing the deal on the official Google blog, Larry Page CEO noted the phenomenal success of the Android operating system: more than 150 million Android devices have been activated worldwide, and more than 550 thousand devices are activated every day. Page stated that Google wants to “overload the Android ecosystem,” and that Motorola is the best company to help do this.

In 2007, Motorola was one of the founders of the Open Handset Alliance, a business alliance that works to make Android "the first truly open and comprehensive mobile platform." In 2008, Motorola relied on Android as the only operating system for all of its smartphones.

Among other things, the acquisition of Motorola will strengthen Google’s patent portfolio, which will allow it to better compete with Microsoft, Apple and other companies.
