Google discontinues support for Google Health and PowerMeter projects

Yes, only last year part of the hawkers rejoiced at the appearance of PowerMeter, a web service that allowed you to track the energy costs in your house or apartment. In addition, the Google Health service has existed for quite some time, which, with a special module, made it possible to receive and analyze information about one’s own health. As planned, the last service was supposed to help residents of the United States, and after - and the whole world to improve interaction with doctors who, when they contacted the patient, immediately received a large amount of data on the state of human health. Unfortunately, the corporation decided to close both the first and second projects.

The fact is that these projects did not receive the degree of popularity that the developers expected. Yes, there were quite a few people who started working with Google Health and / or PowerMeter, but still the services did not work on the scale that was needed by the project initiators and developers. True, according to Aaron Brown, a senior project manager for Google Health, some of the users of this service helped to get information that people could not get earlier.

It is worth recalling that Google Health appeared in mid-2008. The project served as a kind of center for collecting and storing information about the health of a particular person: body weight, blood pressure, and the content of various substances in urine and blood. In addition, Google Health helped you quickly access information such as prescriptions from doctors, medical data, and more.

According to representatives of the development team, the project failed not only because it was highly specialized (this is one of the reasons), but also because in the USA electronic systems in medicine have not yet received proper distribution. And what's the point in the detailed data stored somewhere on the server if the doctor you contacted trusts only paper documents and doesn't take Google Health seriously?

In general, two very promising, as many previously thought, services are closing. Sorry, so sorry. Yes, support for Google Health will be extended until January 1 of next year, and PowerMeter will be closed on September 16 this year.
