GUNNARS: An Upgrade of Human IT Vision (Part 2)

This article is the conclusion of the articles of RG | Blue Light Hazard and GUNNARS: An upgrade of human IT vision (Part 1) . Under the cutscene, information about glasses, views, an overview of several frames and information about the RX program.
In parallel with the discussion of this article, a user rroyter from the USA took up his own testing of GunnarOptiks glasses.

Overview of glasses on the example of Edge and Wi-Five models

Surveyed samples were purchased last year at different times and in different stores. All accompanying materials were shot yesterday and today.

After I established the desire to buy glasses in front of me rose the problem: - "How not to be mistaken with a choice of frame, because the frame is a purely personal accessory?" . On the one hand, I wanted to give up my hand while thinking , “If I don’t guess, I will only wear them when I work for a PC . But the total order amount is ~ 4500r. evaporated this frivolity.
At that time, I focused only on the official store, and on reviews, in most of which people surveyed the rimless EDGE. Their shape was quite fine with me, and the lack of a rim around the lenses made them unusual. But I never wore such a frame, so I printed all the necessary sizes, wandered into the thickets of urban optics, trying to find something similar. The search took about three days, since in most cases the same ones are sold in all optics.

In my case, an unnamed frame worth 1800 rubles turned out to be approximately similar. Which I took as an example I took some photos and showed to friends and a girl who approved the form.

    Shops, purchase, delivery

Taking Visa Classic, opening the treasured Online Store , I selected the desired model and came across a banner “OUT OF STOCK”. All attempts to choose something else, were also unsuccessful, even practical Wi-Five were sold out. And then I started picking the list of retailers, and to my surprise I found that of the entire list (all geographically located in the USA), only two provided international shipping. These are FramesDirect.com and ThinkGeek.com . In FramesDirect also was not available either EDGE or Wi-Five and Halogen value I could not afford the 200 cu. And then I placed an order on the ThinkGeek website. But here it was not without problems. Firstly, they have manual verification of cards at the first registration, and they process the answers for several days. Constantly demanding a photo of the last digits from the card, then a closed card with the fingers on the background of the owner’s documents. The second problem was the inability to deliver the goods to a private address.
Currently UPS will not deliver our packages to a home address in Russia. Honestly, if we ship the order to the address listed, if it is not a business address they will turn it around and return it to us. We are trying to work this out with them, but the only thing we can do now to get orders shipped to Russia

With grief in half, having spent about a week, my order went into processing. Delivery was made by UPS Express , but in fairness, I note that the cherished white box was with me in just 5 days. She was correctly packed in a triple layer of bubble polyethylene.

In the box were: The glasses themselves on the stand; - White bag for carrying and wiping glasses; - Gunnars logo sticker and coupon for free download of 1 song from iTunes.

Although I was hoping to get a big box, what the suppliers are guided by and what the packaging of the glasses will depend on, I still haven't figured out. But for reference, there are about 4 options.

    1. A large black box with a book about technology, a compact disc, a plastic case and a special recess in the form of glasses.
    2. Plastic transparent or black small box / case.
    3. Plain white cardboard packaging like mine and all friends and acquaintances.
    4. In an ordinary bag.

Just a few months later, based on my impressions of the glasses, my friend also decided to buy glasses for himself. The second purchase also went with a creak:

First, ThinkGeek no longer worked with Russia , Ukraine was on the list of the closest country.
Secondly, FramesDirect spent a long time confirming a credit card, ~ 3-4 days. Then it turned out that the Wi-Five they had chosen was not in stock. after much deliberation, we again returned to the official store. On the official website, delivery is no longerUPS and FEDEX Interational costs not 45 as we expected, but 50 cu Glasses themselves cost a good $ 20 more than retailers. In total, the total amount came out in 175 cu, but there was not enough money on the card. And an inquiring Russian mind crawled on the Internet for information, as it were, to cut costs.

The solution turned out to be very simple:
    1. Google.com
    2. Gunnar.com promo code
During the search, codes were also found on FramesDirect

Thus, we won back $ 25 and returned to the original amount of $ 150.

Delivery as the first time was carried out quite quickly, within a week. And we got the brand new Wi-Five .

    Overview and impressions *

The first thought that comes to mind is not checking the quality of assembly and configuration, but the desire to put on these wonderful glasses and see what the money was given for.

    The picture is clickable.

    And so, impressions:
    - No effect,
    - Terrible disorientation,
    - Everything is unusually yellow, sharp and knocking down a table.
I immediately doubted the ability to work with colors, but I remembered that such a reaction of the eyes and the body is absolutely normal. You just need to get used to it and let the brain adapt to new conditions and increased contrast. Ultimately, this happens, after half an hour - an hour, you forget that you are wearing glasses, your eyes get used to it, adjust the "white balance", and everything returns to normal. The glasses were so light that the first time on top of Gunnars I tried to put on my regular glasses, and even several times tried to rub my eyes through the glasses, not to mention falling asleep in them.

I don’t know the weight of the glasses, but they are so light that they do not show themselves in any way, in addition, there is any pressure on the ears, or nose bridge. To understand how light they are, I can only say that by putting glasses on the table, they can be blown away without effort. But at the same time, they fit snugly enough to the head due to the flexibility of the arms.

The arms are made of durable but flexible plastic, to the touch “Soft touch”. They bend quite strongly, but take their original form - it is rather difficult to accidentally break them, the strength of the nose bridge is in doubt. Most likely, if you accidentally sit on them, the glasses will break just in the nose bridge region.

The lenses of the glasses have some approximating effect, despite the fact that they are not diopter, but nevertheless they visually approximate the environment. This functionality will certainly be appreciated by people with myopia up to -0.5, who do not want to wear glasses. I, in turn, bought contact lenses for glasses. and for a very long time I got used to this way of life - to wear lenses, wear glasses, and at first I got confused, because in my whole life I used to wear only glasses. In the end, I'm used to it, but the desire to buy Gunnars from RX retailers still does not leave me. Although such an acquisition with lenses from Carl Zeiss raises the cost of points to 300 cu, there are no such laboratories in Russia.

Further more, literally in the first two weeks, I began to notice that I could read the text of both books and with the iPhone longer than I could easily do it before. An increased clarity of perception really has a place to be, and after a month I felt discomfort being in the lenses without these glasses, or working in old glasses without having time to put on the lenses in the morning.

The most indicative thing for me is still morning: if I wake up and immediately go to the PC, I feel a burning sensation in my eyes, before I needed time to wake up and get used to it, now just put on glasses.

Microclimatewhich was mentioned earlier, also has a place to be. and I noticed this with the purchase of lenses: Without glasses, the eyes get very tired and dry in the evening, because the air and wind dry their eyes, and the natural hydration of the eyes is hampered by the presence of contact lenses. Putting on contact lenses with these glasses, I walk in the lenses without removing them for up to 4 days .

    Scratches:
As for the scratches, they simply are not on either the first or second pair of glasses so far. The weak point of the Gunnars EDGE, I would note the location of the temple-lens mounts. In them, dust is often clogged, which is difficult to wipe without cotton buds, the lack is doubtful but against the background of clean lenses, the fact of its presence annoys the order.

In the case of Wi-Fivethe disadvantage is also rather nitpicking: on the nose from the outside there are traces of dirty / greasy fingers, and give the impression of a worn metal. But all this is erased with a cloth without any effort.

    Water.
Nobody called the water-repellent coating of the lenses, although sometimes this is not enough. There are, of course, drops, but they are much smaller in comparison with drops on ordinary glasses. Lenses sweat from sudden changes in temperature, but quickly return to normal. There were no divorces after the rain.

    Traces:
Despite all the coatings and the lack of smearing of fingerprints, depending on the intensity of wearing, if you often take them off, then you still need a rag just in case. If you put on in the morning, and take off before bedtime, then with this use you will not have to wipe them more often than every two to three days.

And in conclusion, I will answer the most important question:
Yes, glasses eliminated visual loads, increased productivity and visual acuity. They became indispensable, and at the first opportunity I will get myself a second pair with RX. to get rid of contact lenses.

    Comments

    1. In the article, I examined my EDGE frame (to the left) to a greater extent , and used Wi-Five (to the right) for comparison. The properties of the lenses are identical. The owner of Wi-Five does not experience vision problems.

    4. Black photos were taken without using Photoshop - this is the effect of the lenses themselves and the reflection. The photos were taken in a dark bathroom, on a background of black fabric, using the usual b / w pattern in Corel, and the lower backlight of the laptop screen on which this pattern was opened.

Cameras: Sony CyberShot and Apple iPhone

UPD:If you think that the whole thing is not in the specific manufacturer but in the usual yellow filter. Then pay attention to the possibility of buying absolutely transparent glasses with the same characteristics, designed for

UPD1 designers : Habrauser abyss also advised using the f.lux ™ program, which has a similar effect to the observed glasses. Maybe someone will come in handy.

UPD2: The hub user EugeneGavrin found out that there is the possibility of ordering points according to the RX program, with delivery to the Russian Federation. Pricing is as follows:
