Firefox displaced IE from first place in Europe

In December, a landmark event for the world of browsers took place: Internet Explorer lost the first place in Europe. According to StatCounter for December, the number of Firefox users was 38.11%, and IE - 37.52%.

As stated by the head of StatCounter, Edan Cullen (Aodhan Cullen), the reason for this was not the growth in popularity of Firefox, but a decrease in the number of IE users. Including due to the transition of some of them to Chrome.

Chrome still takes the 3rd position in Europe, but has good growth rates. From 5.06% in December 2009 to 14.58% in December 2010.

Cullen also said that these results were affected by the March March of Microsoft forcing the choice of browser in Windows in the EU.

Internet Explorer is still the market leader in North America with 48.92% of users, followed by Firefox with 26.7%, Chrome with 12.82% and Safari with 10.16%.
