In the US release updated Commodore 64

True, the characteristics of the updated Commodore 64, called the Commodore 64x (C64x), have nothing to do with the Commodore 64. The general thing is only the design, the form factor, so to speak. This is not “an old song in a new way”, but “a new song in an old way”. Externally, the Commodore 64x is practically no different from its authoritative ancestor. Unless the connectors we see are modern, the Blu-ray drive looks a little strange on the old case.

But the configuration is quite modern - a dual-core Atom 1.8 GHz processor, plus 2 gigabytes of RAM, the NVIDIA Ion2 graphics subsystem and the same Blu-ray drive. Manufacturers also equipped their brainchild with ports such as USB (4 USB 2.0 ports), as well as HDMI, Ethernet, VGA and DVI-D. There is also a PS2 port for the mouse, plus a 3.5 mm audio output.

Naturally, the main attention was paid to ensure that the case of this PC is fully consistent with the case of the original Commodore 64. According to the developers, the case is 100% identical to what it was before. Even the sound made by the keys when pressed is the same as it was many years ago.

It is clear that such computers are not manufactured for connoisseurs of ultra-modern devices, but for those who feel nostalgia at the sight of rare devices. It is worth noting that in the United States, where the sale of Commodore 64x will be launched, there is a fairly wide market for such devices - after all, the first Commodore 64 were very popular there. They were also common in the CIS countries, but sales will start much later, if at all.

Unfortunately, the sales date is still unknown. The developers promise that the price will not be high, according to some sources, the cost of this PC will be 500 US dollars. Indeed, it is not worth raising the price here - nostalgia is nostalgia, but hardly anyone will overpay a hundred or two dollars, especially since computers of a similar configuration are not so expensive. Oh yes, Commodore USA is releasing this device (they have a pretty site, stylized as “those times”). Honestly, I don’t even know if this company is related to the first device, or maybe it was founded by the developer Commodore 64. In general, we are waiting.

UPD According to the information provided by the ave user, we get an interesting situation. It turns out that Commodore USA has nothing to do with the creators of the first Commodore. A certain Barry Altman founded Commodore USA in the spring of 2010 and agreed to license this brand with the Dutch company Commodore Gaming. Then it turned out that another company owned the rights to the brand - Commodore Licensing BV, a division of Asiarim. I had to negotiate. Now, it seems, everything is fine.

In addition, computer supplies are always delayed. First, the start of sales was scheduled for the summer, then - for the Christmas time, now here - "since 2011".
