Microsoft SWIT 2010. Day One

Hello. This article will be about the Microsoft SWIT 2010 conference, which was pretty much publicized, including on Habré.

For 2 days, more than 30 reports will be presented on the following Microsoft technologies: Windows Azure, Windows Phone 7, SharePoint 2010, System Center, Visual Studio and others; Presentation of Windows Phone 7 device. Also pleased with the opportunity to chat with experts.
As the main hall, I chose Hall B “IT Pro”, dedicated to the latest Microsoft technologies. In my opinion, this room had the widest topic of reports.
There are also halls A for Developers, devoted mainly to .NET technologies and hall C, ALM and latest technologies, which mainly talked about Azure (first day) and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 (second day).
Video reports and presentations will be posted on the techdays.in.ua website .
You can watch the conference schedule here: www.msswit.in.ua/Schedule.aspx
Inside: many letters, impressions, summary of the hall reports On the first day of the conference (December 2), ginger kote, as well as scandals, intrigues, investigations and black magic from Microsoft.

    Day I. Introduction

Kiev met us with frost. In some places even snow lay. Pleased with the buses that drove the conference participants from metro to KievExpoPlaza for free. The conference takes place in the spacious third pavilion. Part of the pavilion is fenced off. It’s difficult to determine the size by eye, but it seems that all three halls and a hall with coffee break tables, an expert zone and a demonstration zone with Xbox and Kinect occupy hardly a third of the pavilion.
There was a slight hitch with the registration: the registration was divided into several parts alphabetically, and because of this there was a slight confusion: some of the documents were written with the letter “X”, and some with the letter “K”, because my last name is in Russian and in English it is written differently. Anyway. Hope this will be the biggest nuisance at this conference.
Separately pleased with the freebie: raincoat with the logo of the conference, a notebook with a pen and a variety of printed materials of an advertising and educational nature.
At first, the reception area with three kinect was occupied only by reception girls, but by lunchtime, among those who wanted to test kinect, the apple had nowhere to fall. While it was not too crowded, we tried Kinect Adventures with a friend and beat each other's faces in boxing. Games themselves are nothing supernatural, but the concept of “controller without controller” is unusual. Personally, I was happy as a child. Although after enhanced PR Kinect'a do not expect a delay of about 0.3 seconds, which at first is confusing.
But here the registration comes to an end, and we are all called on

    First Day Keynote

After a short introduction, where the participants are told about the order of the conference, and about where the halls and key objects such as the toilet and Kinect's coffee-break zone are located, Dmitry Shimkiv, general manager of Microsoft Ukraine, comes on the scene. Discussions about the future begin, historical background on the prerequisites for the development of cloud computing and cloud experience.
In particular, Dimtri began with a story about a car project, in which systems are integrated that allow controlling the car’s systems through ... a mobile phone, incl. Possibility of authorization via telephone. These phones, united in one network, can interact with each other, warn about traffic jams and more. Twitter began to seethe.
In the end, we come to level 5 of the construction of data centers. In particular, Microsoft's data center is shown in Chicago. The servers are in large containers, similar to those transported by trucks. To the containers, standing in even rows, all communications, power and cooling are carried out. What was especially unusual: some of the servers are in the fresh air and use natural resources for cooling and obtaining "green" energy, which can significantly save on server maintenance - up to 70% (although it was not clear from the context, the costs are reduced "by" or up to 70%? In any case, the numbers are impressive).
After general words about the interaction of devices and applications from the point of view of cloud development, the most important part of the presentation begins: Microsoft Azure - a new platform for creating and managing distributed cloud systems and web applications. Several examples were cited, among which: a certain French company engaged in market analysis and forecasting, all of which are calculated in the cloud under the control of Azure. Azure also participated in the rendering of Avatar and the new Toy Story. Examples were also given when it is much more profitable to rent a cloud instead of building your own data center: a pizza ordering service on the Internet, renting a cloud running Azure on the day of the Super Bowl in the USA; football video broadcast in Spain: cloud and client on Silverlight.
The development of clouds occurs in two directions: for mere mortals (for example, Xbox LIVE) and for business.
After all, a video was shown about the future in Microsoft's vision:

After that, Dmitry Shimkiv invited everyone to participate in the competition of projects on Windows Azure.
After the coffee break, everyone went to the corresponding halls.
