Install updates to virtual machine templates

An important point that you need to pay attention to when planning the infrastructure of virtual machines (especially in VDI scenarios) is the need to keep the virtual machine templates up to date in terms of installed updates to the operating system and anti-virus databases.

One solution to this problem for the Hyper-V platform is the recently updated Virtual Machine Servicing Tool 3.0 (available for download here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=8408ecf5-7afe- 47ec-a697-eb433027df73 ).

For the utility to work, the Hyper-V platform must be running Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 or 2008 R2. Updates can be installed, as with
    Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP1, 3.0 SP2, and with System Center Configuration Manager 2007, 2007 SP1, 2007 SP2, 2007 R2.

    The utility can update:
    • virtual machine templates
    • shut down and stopped virtual machines directly on Hyper-V hosts
    • virtual machines and separate virtual disks stored in the SCVMM library
Apply, and the information security department will have nothing to reproach you with.
