HTC Tattoo Orange UK and simlock

It all started with the purchase on eBay in England of a pretty and simple HTC Tattoo for a fairly low price with a good kit. I don’t see the point of telling and proving why I took it; I saw it from a friend - I liked it, I decided to take it for myself. I bought it, but inattentively missed the carrier item in the description of the lot. Sim-lock stood on the operator Orange UK . Before the parcel arrived, I googled and tried to reassure myself that some sort of unlocking service would help. But it wasn’t there ...

Having received the phone, inserted the SIM card, made sure - asks for the unlock code, the network does not see it. I bought the code, entered it - it says “The network is unlocked”, but it also does not catch the opsos and the situation repeats when rebooting: enter the code, the network “unlocks” - zero emotions.
Googling the problem, I found out that the cant in the radio module of the phone, namely Orange, wound up something while locking his party, and even the official unlock codes from HTC do not help. I went through several ROMs - the effect is zero, at that time none of the firmware developers climbed into the radio module from Orange.

The solution, however, was found on one of the foreign forums - to use the Rebel Simcard SIM unlock card. I spread it on her and until yesterday I used it.
    This device looks like this:

It fits between the SIM card of the operator and the SIM card slot. Replaces the SIM operator codes with what the device needs.
There are also Chinese cheap counterparts, but at that moment (and this was in May) I wanted to get a guaranteed working device as quickly as possible, so I forked out for RebelSim.
Calmed down and forgot about the problem for four months, no discomfort and, including 3G, which we recently appeared in Kirovo-Chepetsk, works without problems. It’s not for nothing that I bought the device, even taking into account all the costs, it turned out cheaper than in Russia.

I’ll digress from the topic: there are similar unlock cards for iPhone and other phones, thousands of them .

Yesterday, crawling on the site of the firmware developer MoDaCo came across the topic 1.67.61.43 Orange release repack - this enables code based SIM unlock . Yes, yes, it is dated June! Well, I didn’t bother. :) The
guys did get to the radio module. I downloaded, flashed it, tried the unlock code I bought in May, and voila! The device is unlocked!

    Download hereand a mirror .

The firmware mechanism is the usual as for a regular ROM: backup, flash, boot, unlock the code, recover from backup.

In theory, you can flash one radio module, I poured all the firmware immediately after a full backup and unlocked it.
There is no Russian language in the firmware, so I returned to the ROM I needed without reloading the radio module, everything works with a bang!
PS: RebelSim left until better times, since this card is suitable for other devices (HTC Hero 100%). I took mine from this seller.
