PocketBook Education- Read, study and read again
Hello everybody!
I want to tell you a little about electronic textbooks as devices. This is not a complete article and not a chronology of all stages of the creation and design of a device. I’ll just tell you a little about how you can replace a huge pile of textbooks with one e-book, and how interesting it is to implement it.
About a year ago, PocketBook began developing specialized e-books for schoolchildren and students.
As soon as the development began, it became clear that a diagonal of 5 or 6 inches was not suitable for these tasks. A diagonal of 9.7 inches (the physical size of the pages of most textbooks) turned out to be suitable, and work began ...
The result of the active work of the development department was our first alpha version shown in the photo below.
Yes, the device turned out to be a little angular, but programmers had something to work with.
Software development has begun, its adjustment and refinement to the needs of the education sector. Simultaneously with the development, testing was carried out in schools. Their result was the introduction of significant changes in the design of devices and their software. For example, such a thing appeared in books as a schedule application, a system of widgets in the interface, changes were made to the design of the device, and work was done to optimize the components. As a result of all these efforts, we received a beta version of the device:
I personally brought a sample of this beta to the Kharkov meeting. She looked much prettier and worked faster. We used this book in additional testing in schools to assess children's reactions to new learning tools.
I will not go deep into all the difficulties of testing, psychological research and other things. I’ll just give a few photos:
In general, testing went off with a bang, and in August we released serial samples of new devices, which you will see on store shelves in the month of October this year.
That's exactly what they will look like.
At the moment, interesting videos on this topic are spinning in Ukraine.
