Christopher Alexander

In many podcasts that cover design patterns, this name will pop up sooner or later. I recall this man deservedly, but often in a completely different context.

imageChristopher Alexander, in collaboration with five other specialists in architecture, actually wrote a book on architectural patterns, in which he really examined over two hundred of them. The short and well-known name of this book is “A Pattern Language”. However, just look at the cover of the book to see its full title: “A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction”. Such long book titles and the widespread use of only short names are not uncommon; for example, everyone knows the “Origin of Species” by Sir Charles Darwin, but rarely can anyone recall its full name: “The Origin of Species by Natural Selection, or Preservation of Favorable Races in the Struggle for Life”.

So the book of Christopher Alexander to the field of software development has absolutely nothing to do. It is devoted exclusively to issues of urban planning, space construction, urban communities and architecture as a whole. The book is incredibly interesting and fascinating - I strongly advise you to read it.
