System Administrator Day 2010
Taking this opportunity, I want to congratulate all my colleagues on System Administrator's Day. This year, activists are especially well prepared; festivals, rallies and simply meetings of system administrators are organized throughout the CIS. Of course, the holiday is celebrated on a special scale in Kaluga, and I am very sorry that Kaluga is so far from Kiev and that I didn’t manage to come again this year. Well, okay, still ahead.
To the system administrators, I want to wish patience and self-realization. Remember that computer literacy is not an inherent quality of a person, that the way of thinking of some people does not allow them to work with IT abstractions at all. Therefore, patience, calmness and educational work will help you establish a constructive dialogue with clients. Do not forget also that our profession is “dynamically developing”, therefore studying for us is a lifelong one. Read more, practice more, learn new technologies, otherwise you will quickly become uncompetitive, wither away, become depressed, get drunk, etc. downhill.
I want to tell everyone else that the “computer man”, “programmer”, “system administrator” is also a person, no matter how strange this thought may seem to you. Like any person, the sysadmin is important human attitude to him. Not every admin has developed telepathic abilities, so state your computer problems in the most detailed and intelligible way. Do not forget to learn at least the basics of computer literacy yourself, this will make your life easier and make you a more productive and successful person.
In general, dear brothers in the shop, stable ping and a rare bug!
PS Do not get drunk until delirium tremens :)
